Holland

Holland is best known for its Dutch heritage, evident in many of its attractions and events. Visitors can walk back through time in the Dutch Galleries of the Holland Museum, the renovated splendor of the Cappon House and a recreation of 1890s Netherlands at Nelis' Dutch Village. Other Holland exclusives include the only Delftware factory in the U.S., an authentic wooden shoe factory, and Windmill Island, home to our nation’s only working Dutch windmill.

In early May, the world-reknown Tulip Time Festival fills the city with festive parades, over 1,500 authentically-costumed Dutch dancers and nearly six million tulips. The festivities continue with Dutch Winterfest’s Parade of Lights; visits from Sinterklaas, the Dutch St. Nicholas; and a traditional European open-air Christmas market.

Holland is one of Michigan's premiere Beachtowns, with both Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa providing plenty of fun for swimmers, boaters, skiers, sunbathers and sandcastle builders. The city also boasts an award-winning downtown, with more than 120 specialty shops, galleries and restaurants, including a penthouse bistro atop one of the first hotels in the U.S. to achieve LEED Gold Certification for its green design. A unique snowmelt system under the sidewalks makes Downtown Holland a year-round haven for visitors.
