Sunrise Coast Water Recreation
The Sunrise Coast is blessed with 200 miles of shoreline, seven of Michigan's 20 largest lakes, the mighty Michigan Au Sable River, Thunder Bay River, Iargo Springs, Ocqueoc Falls--the largest waterfall in Michigan's Lower Peninsula--an inland waterway and more. Recreational opportunities abound along the Sunrise Coast from fishing, boating and sailing to canoeing, kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving. 

Outdoor Recreation along the Sunrise Coast
Many of the riches of nature in this region can be found along the Sunrise Coast. Nine state parks, pristine forests, trails, pathways, bike paths and a recreation area invite recreationalists and nature lovers. A number of wilderness and natural areas along the Sunrise Coast provide the opportunity to observe wildlife and rare plants. For the novice, try a nature-based learning vacation at a secluded lodge.

The Sunrise Coast's Maritime Heritage & Attractions 
The Sunrise Coast is rich in maritime heritage. Explore Lake Huron shipwrecks, visit more than eight lighthouses in the area, step aboard a historic Coast Guard Cutter or take a cruise aboard an authentic riverboat. Explore the history and archaeology of ship wrecks at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center.

US 23 Heritage Route
200 miles of spectacular scenic views along Lake Huron's Sunrise Coast and large public forests and recreational opportunities await on the Lake Huron Shores US 23 Heritage Route. Beginning in Standish and winding along the Lake Huron coastline to the Mackinac Bridge, the US 23 Heritage Route offers some of the most extensive and significant recreational, ecological, historical and cultural sites in Michigan's lower peninsula.
