We recently had the pleasure talking to NASCAR driver Ryan Newman, who will be racing in the Pure Michigan 400 this weekend at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). Ryan answered our questions on what he loves most about racing at MIS, what makes Michigan racing fans unique and how he spends his free time in Michigan. He even answered several questions submitted by fans on Twitter.

Take a look and let us know if you’ll be cheering for Ryan on Sunday!

For those interested in receiving updates from the Pure Michigan 400 on race day, use the #PureMichigan400 hashtag on Twitter or follow Pure Michigan Car Culture on Twitter at @PureMichCars or on Facebook.  Guest contributor tonydetroit will also be sharing photos from MIS on the Pure Michigan Instagram account.

The U.S. Senior Open, one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events, is coming to Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion, Michigan, July 9 – July 15, 2012. More than 156 professionals and amateurs (over the age of 50) are expected to play. Previously, Indianwood has hosted two U.S. Women’s Opens in 1989 and 1994.

Today, Keith Aldridge, tournament director for the U.S. Senior Open to be held at Indianwood, tells us what to expect on the course.

Q: What makes Indianwood an ideal course for hosting this event?
A: There are great views across the course, with no trees on the Old Course and great vistas. Spectators can see many holes at one location.

Q: Who can fans look forward to seeing play in the U.S. Senior Open this year?
A: Fred Couples, Fred Funk, Tom Watson, Tom Kite and Kenny Perry, among others.

Q: What are some unique events or attractions happening on the course throughout the week?
A: We’ll be hosting a Free Military Day on Wednesday, July 11th for all retired and active service personnel. The 16th hole will also be representative of military members involved with the tournament.

Additionally, there will be free parking throughout the event and children under the age of 17 will be admitted free with a paid adult.

Q: What’s your favorite hole on the course at Indianwood?
A: 12 is one of the best par 4s in all of golf. The views are awesome from the tee!

Q: Outside of the course, what are some must-sees in Lake Orion while visitors are in town?
A: One of the most famous Mexican restaurants in Oakland County – Sagebrush Cantina.

Q: Where can people go to learn more about the U.S. Senior Open?
A: Visit www.2012ussenioropen.com to learn more. Hope to see you on the course!

We have exciting news to share – the Detroit Tigers and Pure Michigan are teaming up for a new sponsorship. Look out to the large light tower right field in Comerica Park and you’ll see a large Pure Michigan logo. You’ll also see Pure Michigan on the backs of the benches and on the railings for both the Tigers and visiting team dugouts.

We teased this sponsorship on our Facebook page during the week with close-up photos of blades of grass, the bricks outside the park, the benches and the light tower. Congrats to those of you that figured it out! Check out some photos below.
