June means the official start of summer in Pure Michigan! And with school out for the year and warm weather here to stay, it’s the perfect time to experience some of the great things going on around the state.

Week of June 2

Art & Orchard Festival
June 6-June 8, 2013, Washington
Washington’s Art & Orchard Festival will be the second weekend in June, June 6-9, 2013. The event will feature a carnival on Friday, live music, an arts & crafts show, fireworks Saturday night, petting zoo, beer tent and food station.

Cereal City Festival
June 7-8, 2013, Battle Creek
The Cereal City Festival is an event celebrating the Battle Creek community and its rich and varied past. A parade kicks off the festival on Friday, June 8th and the fun continues with the Cereal City Classic 5k/10k run and the World’s Longest Breakfast Table on Saturday morning. National Asparagus Festival – Hart
June 7-8, 2013, Hart

Mackinac Island Lilac Festival
June 7-16, 2013, Mackinac Island
The idea of the festival was to bring people to the island to enjoy a great horse drawn parade amidst the lovely lilacs that fragrance the island in June. Now this ten day festival includes a comedy show, afternoon tea at the Grand Hotel, music, walking tours, hayrides, arts and crafts, 10K run, Lilac Festival Queen, dancing, wine tasting, bingo, lilac strolls and much more. Leland Wine & Food Festival
June 8, 2013, Leland
Michigan’s oldest wine festival takes place at the Leland Harbor. Everyone has a chance to go see 17 wineries of the Leelanau & Old Mission Peninsulas on Saturday, enjoy great food and music and kick off the summer festival season in style! No need to purchase advance tickets – just show up rain or shine at the big tent in Leland’s picturesque Fishtown district. Orion Music + More

Heritage Coast Grand Prix

Pinconning CheeseTown Festival
June 14-15, 2013, Pinconning
Highlights of the festival include a mac & cheese dinner contest, the ultimate wine & cheese party, the cheesy CheeseTown parade, a teen concert, arts & crafts, fireworks, a beer tent with lots of live music, and in honor of Father’s Day weekend, a CheeseTown dad contest. The event is held at Doc Letchfield Park on M-13 in Pinconning. The event is in conjunction with the 30th Annual CheeseTown Challenge Race (5 mile race, 2 mile fun run/walk, and Little Meeces Race). Quicken Loans 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
June 16, 2013, Brooklyn
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to the Irish Hills on Father’s Day with the running of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series 400. NASCAR stars, such as former MIS winners Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, and Jimmy Johnson return to MIS for another action-packed day of side-by-side racing. East Jordan Freedom Festival

FinnFest USA 2013

Kalamazoo Island Fest

Detroit River Days

The 2013 festival will continue to celebrate Detroit’s maritime, ecological and culinary culture while again featuring many proven crowd-favorite, family-friendly activities and programming elements from previous festivals. Interactive exhibits, large-scale sand sculptures, strolling entertainers, eco-friendly kids’ zones, carnival rides, and live concerts with performances featuring more than 50 local, national and international music acts will be back this year. Ford Fireworks

The Parade Company is excited to pump up the City of Detroit, on June 24th as we produce the 55th Ford Fireworks presented by Target, along the Detroit River. St. Ignace Car Show Weekend

This annual event is one of the largest all-make, all-model shows in the country. Hundreds of antique, custom, and celebrity automobiles are on display all day Saturday. Car enthusiasts can examine vehicles up close and see them in action during Kewadin Casino Cruise Night on Thursday evening, and the Down Memory Lane Parade on Friday evening. Michigan Challenge Balloonfest 2013

Grand Haven Art Festival & Fun Day

The work of 150 of the finest artists in the country will be on display and for sale during the 51st Annual Grand Haven Art Festival & Family Fun Day, June 29 – 30, 2013. National Cherry Festival 2013

Light up the Lake Fireworks & Parade

Fourth of July Celebration

The Cedar Polka Fest is held yearly in Cedar, Michigan, under the big tent on the tennis courts. May is almost here, and that means the peak of spring in Pure Michigan is on the horizon! The temperatures are rising, the flowers are blooming across the state and festival season is upon us.

Week of April 28

Blossomtime Festival
April 28-May 4, 2013, Saint Joseph
The Blossomtime Festival takes place April 28 – May 4. This annual festival, which began in 1906 celebrates the agricultural industry in southwest Michigan. It is a multi-community event including 25 communities in southwest Michigan. The Grand Floral Parade lasts two hours and has over 100 units including floats with community queens and their courts, bands, clowns, costumed characters and antique cars. More than 250,000 spectators come from across the Midwest to enjoy this colorful parade which travels from St. Joseph across the river into Benton Harbor. Jackson Storyfest

Held the first weekend of May each year, storytellers from all over the United States bring their special stories to Jackson, Michigan; where audiences of all ages share in the laughter, the tears, and the memories. Guts & Glory – An Evening with Anthony Bourdain

Chef, author and raconteur Anthony Bourdain is best known for traveling the globe on his stomach, daringly consuming some of the world’s most exotic dishes on his hit TV shows Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and The Layover. Somewhat notoriously, he has established himself as a professional gadfly, bête noir, advocate, social critic and pork enthusiast, recognized for his caustic sense of humor worldwide. Flower Fair
May 10-11, 2013, Lake Orion
In its 13th year, downtown Lake Orion’s annual Flower Fair event will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013, from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 11, 2013, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. This event, which takes place in the streets of downtown Lake Orion, kicks off the summer season and provides patrons the opportunity to purchase flower and garden related products as well as art and craft items. Patrons will also be able to speak with home improvement and backyard goods and service providers and visit our business showcase. Mesick Mushroom Festival

Michigan All State Bonsai Show

Ryan Neil, one of the most sought-after bonsai artists in the country, will headline this year’s show. Ryan studied in Japan for six years and has taught workshops and given demonstrations at bonsai conferences throughout the world. Twice he has been featured in Bonsai Focus magazine. Eastern Market Flower Day

Grand Haven Offshore Challenge

Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix
May 31-June 2, 2013, Detroit
Come and experience the fastest weekend of the summer at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, May 31-June, 2013. The event features world-class auto racing, family fun, live music, interactive games and displays and much more. There’s something at the Grand Prix for people of all ages. Belle Isle hosts three days of racing, music and family entertainment as the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix returns to the Motor City. Premiere racing action will be featured on the newly-reconfigured raceway at Belle Isle Park. The weekend features the IZOD IndyCar Series, the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the Pirelli World Challenge Championship Series. In 2013, Belle Isle will host the first IndyCar doubleheader race weekend with full championship races on both Saturday and Sunday in the Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit. Even if you’re not a race fan, there’s plenty to experience and enjoy at the Grand Prix. Friday, May 31, is “Free Prix Day” as fans will have free admission to the track as well as the race paddock. Ya’ssoo Greek Festival
May 3-June 2, 2013, Ann Arbor
Ya’ssoo is an annual festival featuring live music and entertainment, Greek cuisine, homemade pastries, Kafenio and Taverna, Agora Marketplace and church tours. The event is held at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church; 3109 Scio Church Rd; Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103. Last year over 7,000 people attended. The event takes place Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 midnight and on Sunday from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Children 12 and under are free and admission is free for everyone on Sunday. Michigan Pinball Expo

The pinball machines in the center of the Expo will be available to the public to play for free from the start of the Michigan Pinball Expo until the close of the Michigan Pinball Expo! Foolmoon

All Beethoven Concert

Performing the music of Beethoven is a central part of the life of every symphony orchestra. Blossomtime Festival

CopperDog 150

Snowsfest in Les Cheneaux
February 14-17, 2013, Cedarville and Hessel
The 52nd annual Snowsfest is one of Michigan’s longest running winter festivals! Most activities will be in downtown Cedarville, including children’s winter games, chili cook-off, hot dogs and beverages, dog show, Leader Dogs exhibit, Kitty Cat/Mini-Z/120 races for kids, the ceremonial snowman burning, and Winter Makers’ Market of hand-crafted art, food and home furnishings. The Ice Hole Golf on Ice, Frosty 5K & 10K, and Winter Wonderland Dog Walk will take place in Hessel. There will also be a Pub Shuffle, Snowsfest Poker Run and many more activities offered throughout the weekend. UP200 Sled Dog Race
February 14-18, 2013, Marquette
The UP 200 is one of America’s premier 12-dog, mid-distance sled dog races. Mushers say this is one of their favorite races, not only because of the challenging race, but because of the cheering crowds and warm welcome they receive in the Upper Peninsula.  The UP 200 trail covers 240 miles of challenging terrain through the areas of Marquette, Grand Marais, Wetmore, the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and finishes at Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Marquette. Hart & Pentwater WinterFest
February 15-16, 2013, Pentwater
On Saturday, February 15, there is a “Friday Night Lights Broomball tournament,” Hart Lake fishing tournament, free fishing weekend, snow putt golf, a chili cook-off at Cenzo’s, snowshoeing and skiing in Pentwater and the John Gurney Park  will be open for x-country skiing. Labatt Blue UP Pond Hockey Championship
February 15-17, 2013, St. Ignace
The Labatt Blue UP Pond Hockey Championship drew a record 159 teams to St. Ignace in 2012. Come and play in one of the few pond hockey tournaments where the ‘pond’ is actually one of the five Great Lakes – Lake Huron! This is a USA Hockey sanctioned tournament, and players over the age of 21 are welcome to come and participate in the tournament! Many 75′ x 150′ rinks will be created on the ice of Moran Bay.
