Last week, on Thursday night, we were treated to what the Farmer’s Almanac calls the Hunter’s Moon. This moon is the first full moon after the Harvest Moon.

Juke and Jive – Duck Season

With autumn storms starting to form in the Canadian prairies, ducks will be on the move, and so will waterfowlers in Michigan. Saginaw Bay, Lake St. Clair, Drummond Island, the Les Cheneaux’s– all these will bring the ducks in, and the duck hunters will smile through frozen moustaches and frozen cheeks.

Michigan’s deer season for bow hunters opens on Oct 1. Sitting or standing in a tree stand is what many do when they wish to hunt deer. Of course you wish to see a deer (why else are you up in a tree playing squirrel?), but there is so much more to see than these.

The Wait Is Over

It’s here! Hunting season has finally started. At dawn today, Wednesday, September 1, actually one-half hour before sunrise to be specific, the first of many openers on the hunting front opened. Early goose season started– finally.

It’s pure joy to be on the water or the fields before daybreak. Watching, and better yet, hearing the world wake up is Pure Michigan magic. You’ll hear the geese coming from a long way off, their cries slowly building until you see that long thin line of wings. As it gets closer the song builds, your heart races, and the all-too-long anticipation of another season finally comes to a close.
