Johnny Quirin, a contributing photographer for Michigan Travel Ideas, shares his experience trying to photograph the Grand Haven Pier at sunset.
“F8 and be there”— it’s a phrase used by photographers. Be at the right place, at the right time, with your camera in hand. F8 is a setting on the camera that refers to an aperture setting on the lens. But, it’s the “being there” that counts. I have been trying to capture a Grand Haven sunset since I moved to the area almost 10 years ago. The problem is that I live 10 miles inland, which makes the trek to the beach too long when inspiration strikes.
Guest blogger Yvonne Bingaman may not live in Michigan, but her heart belongs here. Read about a special mother and daughter vacation to Pure Michigan, and how her mom now “gets it.”

That must be what my jaw-dropping rent payment is for—quaintness. Read more…
Dawn LaVigne shares her “Pure Michigan Moment,” a two-week road trip and camping excursion along the shore of Michigan last summer.
Last summer, we drove the entire shore of Michigan. Our two-week camping trip began on the west side of the state. From there, we drove north and east, into the Upper Peninsula and then back down into the Lower Peninsula and along Lake Huron. It was two weeks of water, sand, forests, blue skies, sunshine, history and family fun!
