MIS Revs Up for the 2013 Pure Michigan 400 NASCAR Race

The action at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) has been fast-paced and intense in 2013, and it certainly won’t slow down this weekend as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to the Irish Hills for the Pure Michigan 400. As the MIS staff makes final preparations for the race, the anticipation has started to increase. Brad Kuhbander, Manager of Media Relations at MIS, fills us in on what’s been happening at the track this summer.

Read from him below and let us know if you’ll be at MIS this weekend for the Pure Michigan 400!

The track’s vision statement – To create lasting memories for every person, every time – is at the forefront of the guest service model once again. It has been a year of change, in the cars and in the facility. NASCAR introduced the Gen Six car, while the track enhanced the restrooms, added free Wi-Fi hotspots and changed the trams.

June was full of memories, especially for Greg Biffle who took the checkered flag for his second consecutive win at MIS. Michigan International Speedway is quickly becoming his favorite track, as he has six victories here – four in Sprint Cup and two in the truck series. Biffle also collected Ford’s 1,000th career win over three racing series – Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series.

The Gen Six cars, which look more like showroom vehicles, have been a hit with the fans. And boy are the cars fast! In June, 13 cars eclipsed an average speed of 200 MPH in qualifying. After a race and practice sessions collecting data, the speeds may continue to increase for the Pure Michigan 400.

The racing at Michigan International Speedway will continue to be intense for the Pure Michigan 400. Only four races remain before the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship. The top 10 drivers after the race at Richmond International Raceway will automatically earn a berth in the Chase. In addition, the drivers with the most victories from positions 11-20 will also be included in the Chase.

The action does not stop on Saturday once the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Michigan National Guard 200 is over. In Lot 10 behind the water tower, fans can continue the day with the Budweiser Acceleration Concert. Keith Anderson will be entertaining the crowd. The concert will start approximately 30 minutes following the race when Tim Dugger takes the stage followed by Drake White and the Big Five.

This year MIS added five new free Wi-Fi hotspots around the track. Fans can now stay up to date on the latest happenings in NASCAR and set their fantasy line up right from the track. And since 20 percent of the track’s fanbase comes from Canada, this will be a great opportunity for all of the international guests to stay in contact with their families back across the border.

MIS has made it easier for fans visiting the 2013 Pure Michigan 400 with updated tram services. Tram hubs will be located at Turns Two and Four to take fans to their respective parking lots. These tram routes will be much more efficient for fans going to and from the lots.

The team at MIS realizes it is the fans that make the atmosphere truly unique and exciting. That is why the track makes the fans its priority every weekend. From the thrill of the crowd to the rush of the race that brings people here, MIS would like to thank all of the fans for trusting the facility, staff, and drivers, to provide an experience of a lifetime.

As this racing season concludes in the Irish Hills this weekend, you can be sure the MIS staff is already revving up for another exciting season in 2014.

It is hard to contain the excitement at the track.

Thank you once again for supporting Michigan International Speedway. We couldn’t do it without you.

Enjoy the race and we’ll see you next year!
