One Week. 50 Cities. The Most Ambitious Pure Michigan Road Trip Ever Planned.

August 15, 2012

in Events,Posts by Region

What can you do in one week? Jeff Barrett and Rob Bliss – two ordinary Michigan-born men – are about to embark on an extraordinary road trip through the state to answer that question. The goal will be to create an energetic digital video that highlights various things the state has to offer. The video will serve as a way to help tell the story of Michigan as a great place to live, work, play and build a business. The trip will take place in an “Imported from Detroit” Chrysler.

Barrett and Bliss’ firm Status Creative will be filming all across Michigan during the week-long road trip. This is the same firm behind last year’s Grand Rapids LibDub - national winner for Best Use Of Video in Social Media from PRNewswire. Barrett and Bliss will be highlighting some of the people, businesses, events and natural beauty that make Michigan unique. The journey will begin on Sunday, August 19th and conclude a week later on the 26th of August.

The general public is welcome and encouraged to participate in these filmed events as Barrett and Bliss come to their city. Those curious about what events will be happening near them can visit the Interactive Map (see below).

Update: Filming for the video ended in August. Check michigan.org/blog to see the final video from Jeff and Rob’s trip on Sunday, September 9th!

@BarrettAll @robblissgr @PureMichigan East side? This trip sounds like so much fun, I may hide in the trunk for the whole shebang.

9 CharlieCurve August 16, 2012 at 11:13 am

@BarrettAll @robblissgr Can’t wait to see what kind of cool you’ll create for @PureMichigan out of this.

10 BarrettAll August 16, 2012 at 11:22 am

@CharlieCurve The trunk in the @Chrysler 200 is fantastic. Hop on board!

11 BarrettAll August 16, 2012 at 11:29 am

@Rleamon We might have to do another road trip then. :)

12 mikevial August 16, 2012 at 11:46 am

@BarrettAll Great project Jeff! Need any MI themed road trip songs for the film? I’ve got a few I’d send you.

13 SeanBartley August 16, 2012 at 11:57 am

@BarrettAll Hey! When are you guys coming to Midland and what do you plan on doing here? Would love to be involved somehow! Let me know!

15 MattBlackburn August 16, 2012 at 12:02 pm

Just a little disappointed they are not making it all the way to Houghton/Hancock.

16 RyanJServatius August 16, 2012 at 12:04 pm

Very Excited to see this, to bad you could not make it 20 more minutes South to South Haven from Saugatuck.  We know you would fall in love with our small resort town located on Lake Michigan with miles of Sugar Sand Beaches on Big Blue

17 neecannon August 16, 2012 at 12:05 pm

Sounds like a great project.  But looking at the map it appears that nothing exists in the center of the state.  Not sure what I think about that.

18 GetBetterFood August 16, 2012 at 12:10 pm

I think our paths will cross near Petoskey. We are heading there then to UP. High expectations for the commercial! @BarrettAll @PureMichigan

19 BarrettAll August 16, 2012 at 12:11 pm

@mikevial Forty hours in the car. I’m sure we’ll need a few tunes. Haha.

20 DeniseSchmitzPiantkowski August 16, 2012 at 12:11 pm

Great idea…but I thought it was a “Pure Michigan Roadtrip”?  If you look at the points of where you’re going, you do not even come close to covering ALL of Michigan.  As some people pointed out, there is nowhere in the center of the state, there is nothing west of Marquette, and I will add that there are not too many places on the east side of the state.  There are so many points that are centralized in the Detroit area.  What a shame that you won’t be covering a TRUE Michigan experience.  With all the coverage you will be having, it isn’t doing our state it’s TRUE justice.

M3 Group took a very memorable (and very similar) road trip last year called #MeetMichigan, where we visited all 83 counties in Michigan in two weeks. It was a lot of fun. Check out our blog here to read about it: http://www.m3group.biz/blog/author/meetmichigan

22 BarrettAll August 16, 2012 at 12:17 pm

We will be in Midland at 1:30 PM on the 20th at the tridge. @SeanBartley #PureMichigan

23 LauraHessButler August 16, 2012 at 12:17 pm

I just did the same thing on a motorcycle with a friend from Tennessee and we called it a vacation so unfortunately we can’t write it off on taxes.  We also went to Copper Harbor, a little further west.

24 SeanBartley August 16, 2012 at 12:19 pm

@BarrettAll Awesome! We will see you there! What are your plans? #PureMichigan

26 LauraHessButler August 16, 2012 at 12:31 pm

You are missing so much staying on the interstate.  In the UP there is Fayette State Park which should be a must see, Whitefish Point Shipwreck Museum, Center Ave. in Bay City which has the older mansions from the lumber barons, Sage Library in Bay City, cheese shops in Pinconning, Jampot in Eagle Harbor, Houghton,  Legs Inn in Cross Village, tunnel of Trees on 119, small town charm of Rockford, Shrine of the Pine in Baldwin.   Looks like you guys are just passing thru and not enjoying the trip.  Too bad for you!

27 KathrynKenny August 16, 2012 at 12:40 pm

You really should make a stop in Manistee County…between Sleeping Bear Dunes and Ludington.  Suggestions include Arcadia’s Inspiration Point off M22, to Crescent Beach Road along Portage Lake and Lake Michigan to downtown Manistee’s Riverwalk where you might catch a freighter making its way through the channel between Lake Michigan and Manistee Lake. It’s along the way!!  For more information: http://www.VisitManisteeCounty.com or call the Visitors Center at 877.626.4783.

To hit 50 locations in a week all while coordinating the filming for the video is a pretty ambitious project so of course they can’t hit all of the cool places in our beautiful state. I’m excited to stay tuned :)

29 RyanJServatius August 16, 2012 at 1:15 pm

it would be nice if they broke it up into a series, to hit the U.P., Northern, Eastern, Western and of course the beautiful Soutwestern Michigan areas

30 Pure Michigan August 16, 2012 at 1:24 pm

@AnnaDaugherty1 What a great trip, Anna. Impressive how far you were able to travel in a short period of time. Love the photos and memories you share on your blog.

31 Pure Michigan August 16, 2012 at 1:25 pm

@DeniseSchmitzPiantkowski With 96,000 square miles of land and hundreds of cities in Michigan, Rob and Jeff aren’t able to cover it all in one week. Maybe they’ll do a second trip and visit different places.

32 Pure Michigan August 16, 2012 at 1:29 pm

@RyanJServatius You’re right, Ryan, Saugatuck is beautiful. Its beaches were named among the top 25 in the world according to Condé Nast International Travel Magazine.

33 Pure Michigan August 16, 2012 at 1:30 pm

@RyanJServatius Ah, that’s an interesting idea, too, Ryan.

34 Pure Michigan August 16, 2012 at 1:36 pm

@LauraHessButler All great suggestions, Laura. There are more than 200 shipwrecks in the area around the Shipwreck Museum in Paradise, Michigan. It’s a must-see for people visiting that area.

35 Pure Michigan August 16, 2012 at 1:56 pm

If they did a second trip, do you have any favorite place you’d want them to stop? (Given the time constraints of just one week, they couldn’t make it to all the places they wanted this time).

36 Nora TNiemi August 16, 2012 at 1:56 pm

Great idea, however, you’re missing the “Purest” part of Michigan, which is the western end of the U.P. Maybe another series sometime, to include the Keweenaw Peninsula, Houghton, Ontonagon, and Baraga Counties?

37 Pure Michigan August 16, 2012 at 2:10 pm

@StefanieHerder Yes, stay tuned! Fingers crossed they don’t get pulled over for speeding. :)

38 robblissgr August 16, 2012 at 2:15 pm

@CharlieCurve tons of SE Michigan!

41 RobertZinger August 16, 2012 at 2:49 pm

Yeah. Central Michigan isn’t important at all. Way to represent Michigan by hitting up Detroit and a bunch of tourist destinations.

42 JenniferRundels August 16, 2012 at 2:57 pm

@Pure Michigan Don’t forget the thumb!  There’s Port Huron, Fort Gratoit, Lexington, Croswell, and Port Sanilac!

43 Pure Michigan August 16, 2012 at 3:12 pm

@RobertZinger There are hundreds of wonderful cities in Michigan and we love promoting them all. Rob and Jeff couldn’t fit all they wanted to in their 7-day schedule.

44 corisherman August 16, 2012 at 4:49 pm

@BarrettAll Totally jealous! Have fun :) Michigan is a beautiful state.

45 fghstrhrh August 16, 2012 at 4:54 pm
