Mackinaw Area Historic Festival

The Mackinaw Area Historic Festival, held the first Saturday in August, is held at Heritage Village, 1 Mile, West of Mackinaw City. Step back into the 1880’s with vintage baseball games, period children’s games, tours of historic buildings (including a one room school house, pestilence or quarantine house, Mennonite Farm House, saw mill and historic church). The days’ events are highlighted with live displays wagon rides, 1870s music, square dancing and other activities. Family oriented with something for all ages. No pets please. Wings Over Alpena

Wings Over Alpena is a free air show held on the grounds of Alpena’s Combat Readiness Training Center as a tribute to the Korean Conflict. The Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center is located on Airport Road off of M-32 West, approximately 7 miles west of Alpena. There is limited seating, so lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. Tractor & Engine Show

Old Town Cherry-Roubaix Bicycle Race

The popular bike race will return to the streets of Traverse City and the rolling hills of Leelanau County. Organizers have announced that this year’s event will not only include a criterium race downtown, but will also incorporate a road race the following day. This “criterium style” race will occur on a closed circuit course winding throughout the city streets and neighborhoods of Traverse City. Wooden Boat Show

The Pentwater Yacht Club will hold its 16th Annual Wooden Boat Show on Pentwater Lake. The show is open to the public and a buffet lunch will be available from noon to 2pm. Dozens of beautifully built wood boats, vintage and new; powerboats, including Chris Craft, Century and Lyman, will be on display from 11am to 3pm. The public may cast their vote for a People’s Choice Award, which will be presented along with Best Century and Best in Show awards at 3pm.
