September is another busy month in Michigan! From music festivals and county fairs to art festivals and more , there is no shortage of things to do and see. As the temperatures begin to cool and fall begins to move in, make sure to take advantage of some of these seasonal happenings.

Week of September 1

Detroit Jazz Festival
August 30-September 2, 2013, Detroit
Come and enjoy the 34th annual Detroit Jazz Festival which occupies two million square feet of downtown Detroit from Hart Plaza on the riverfront, three blocks north to beautiful Campus Martius Park. Arts, Beats & Eats
August 31-September 3, 2013, Royal Oak

Harmony Fest
September 1, 2013, Three Rivers
As always, Three Rivers will be closing the summer of 2013 out with an amazing schedule of bands. With the main stage taking place on Main Street, in beautiful downtown Three Rivers, everyone is invited to bring a lawn chair and your friends and relatives for a free musical event. Annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk
September 2, 2013, Saint Ignace
Join thousands of walkers and make the five-mile trek across the Mighty Mackinac Bridge! Walkers can begin walking at 7am and can start up until 11am. The annual trek across the 5-mile long Mackinac Bridge occurs on Labor Day, the only day of the year pedestrians are allowed on the bridge. Walkers begin in St. Ignace at the north end of the Bridge and walk south. The walk is one-way, and bus transportation is available to return you to St. Ignace until 2:30pm. You can also park your vehicle in the parking lot of the Little Bear East Arena and be shuttled to and from the start line for the bridge walk. For additional information, visit the website link.

Tip of the Mitt Paddle Fest
September 7-8, 2013, Cheboygan
This two-day event will feature a Saturday “Paddlerama” where paddlers will participate in a series of paddle events, including: sprints, SUP jousts, SUP yoga, demos, races and water safety programs on Mullett Lake at the beach of Aloha State Park. Stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and canoes are welcome. There will also be live music, craft beer festival, featuring some of the tastiest beers, local eateries and bands from around the region. Miss Michigan USA and Miss Michigan Teen USA 2014
September 13-14, 2013, Port Huron
Live from Port Huron, Michigan, it’s 2014 Miss Michigan USA and Miss Michigan Teen USA. Join us for this pageant as high-caliber, young, Michigan woman compete for the title of Miss Michigan USA and Miss Michigan Teen USA. Winner moves on to compete for Miss USA and Miss Teen USA. DIY Street Fair
September 13-15, 2013, Ferndale
The DIY Street Fair is a free two-day, three-night event in Ferndale, Michigan where local artists, crafters, businesses, groups and organizations, musicians, restaurants, brewers and others who live and work with a do-it-yourself ethic converge for one big celebration. The event showcases the immense creative energy, independent spirit and innovative talent that can be found throughout the area. It aims to be a showcase for local, homegrown, forward thinking solutions, original works, innovative products, businesses and ideas. Grand Haven Salmon Festival
September 13-15, 2013, Grand Haven
The 10th Annual Grand Haven Salmon Festival, a three-day festival slated for September 13-15, 2013 in downtown Grand Haven. The outdoor-waterfront festival features live jazz music; Michigan tasting pavilion (ID required for wine/beer tasting) featuring Michigan’s top wineries and grape stomping; gourmet salmon cook-off contest; fall harvest beer & entertainment pavilion; downtown merchant market; fine art fair on the waterfront; Big King Salmon fishing contest with weigh-in/awards ceremony; mouth-watering food and beverage treats at the Fresh Catch Fish Boil; Grand Haven historic displays through the Tri-Cities Museum; hands-on children’s nature-themed arts & crafts activities; and educational, environment-focused exhibits, displays, workshops—and more! Michigan Irish Music Festival 2013
September 13-15, 2013, Muskegon
The Michigan Irish Music Festival returns to Heritage Landing in downtown Muskegon, with a weekend of live music, activities, and culture! The Festival features Irish & Celtic music on three covered stages. In addition to continuous live music, the Celtic Kitchen and Bob and Bernie’s Pub serve up authentic Irish food and beverages. Other festival activities include the Irish Marketplace, children’s activities, a cultural center, and a session tent. A popular highlight on Saturday is the Michigan FEIS, an Irish dance competition. Sunday morning, a Catholic Mass will be held at 9 am followed by a traditional Irish breakfast. The festival offers an Early-In Free promotion on Friday only from 5 to 6pm . If you buy your tickets online, general admission is $10 on Friday (5-11pm), $15 on Saturday (11am to 11pm) and $10 on Sunday (8:30am to 6pm). Tickets at the booth are $15 Friday, $20 Saturday, and $15 on Sunday. Three-day passes are $30 online and $40 at the ticket booth.

Taste of Traverse City Festival
September 13-15, 2013, Traverse City
The first annual Taste of Traverse City Festival is celebrating the love of it all in three days with three featured events – Downtown Grub Crawl, Taste of Traverse City, and Best of Brunch. The Taste of Traverse City Festival takes place in Traverse City September 13-15. Tickets for all featured events are now on sale. The featured events of 1st Annual “Taste of Traverse City Festival” will provide visitors an opportunity to experience the epicurean specialties, shops, and restaurants that have the Northern Michigan town topping the lists as a food, wine, beer, vacation and event destination. Detroit Design Festival
September 18-22, 2013, Detroit
The third-annual Detroit Design Festival (DDF) will put Detroit’s creative community on display Sept. 18 to 22, 2013. This year’s DDF will feature 60 events in neighborhoods throughout Detroit. The festival will connect 300 designers and creative practitioners with design enthusiasts in five days. A feast for the eyes, the DDF features dozens of design installations, shows, previews, performances and workshops. Design Happenings will take place at venues along Detroit’s Creative Corridor, from downtown to New Center. Highlights include the Detroit Design Festival official launch party Sept. 17, the Toyota Lecture Series with a legendary designer Sept. 18, Eastern Market after Dark and the debut of The Love Song of R. Frankenmuth Oktoberfest 2013

Michigan Firemen’s Memorial Festival
September 19-22, 2013, Roscommon
Fire Chiefs, Fire Fighters, EMS and thousands of friends and family from all over the United States and foreign countries will gather in September in memory of the valiant Fire Fighters who gave the supreme sacrifice of their lives while protecting their communities. Festival will include family night, arts & crafts, activities for the kids, demonstrations, and a parade. Hillsdale County Fair

People from all over Michigan and the surrounding areas await the return of the Hillsdale County Fair each fall. Fair events include horse show, kid’s fest, fireworks, tractor pull, and grandstand events. The fair always starts the third Sunday after Labor Day Monday in September. Four Flags Area Apple Festival

Great Waters Festival
