The U.S. Senior Open Comes to Indianwood Golf & Country Club

The U.S. Senior Open, one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events, is coming to Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion, Michigan, July 9 – July 15, 2012. More than 156 professionals and amateurs (over the age of 50) are expected to play. Previously, Indianwood has hosted two U.S. Women’s Opens in 1989 and 1994.

Today, Keith Aldridge, tournament director for the U.S. Senior Open to be held at Indianwood, tells us what to expect on the course.

Q: What makes Indianwood an ideal course for hosting this event?
A: There are great views across the course, with no trees on the Old Course and great vistas. Spectators can see many holes at one location.  

Q: Who can fans look forward to seeing play in the U.S. Senior Open this year?
A: Fred Couples, Fred Funk, Tom Watson, Tom Kite and Kenny Perry, among others.

Q: What are some unique events or attractions happening on the course throughout the week?
A: We’ll be hosting a Free Military Day on Wednesday, July 11th for all retired and active service personnel. The 16th hole will also be representative of military members involved with the tournament.

Additionally, there will be free parking throughout the event and children under the age of 17 will be admitted free with a paid adult.

Q: What’s your favorite hole on the course at Indianwood?
A: 12 is one of the best par 4s in all of golf. The views are awesome from the tee!

Q: Outside of the course, what are some must-sees in Lake Orion while visitors are in town?
A: One of the most famous Mexican restaurants in Oakland County – Sagebrush Cantina.
