I love biking in Michigan! I would love to explore so many new places I haven’t been yet. Biking for me is year round – I have a road bike, mountain bike, touring bike and one that I can use in the summer or winter (it’s called a fat tire bike and you can ride it on the beach in sand or snow in the winter).

352 Katie February 15, 2013 at 8:55 am

The only way to survive a Michigan winter is to know what the summer will be like and just wait it out! (and drinking Bells Beer to keep warm!)
Born and raised in Gaylord…loved the wonders of the southwest when I attended college at Western Michigan in Kalamazoo. Met my hubby over by the D and just cant get enough of it! (happy!) to be stuck here for life :)

I just love going places in Michigan and take pictures! I live in lower Michigan and would love to go north and take in the views and the lighthouses. I would love to win a trip to the island

Michigan is my favorite state for a reason. I love traveling around it for vacation and for business.

357 Cheryl Jozwiak February 15, 2013 at 9:25 am

My husband and I love to visit Mackinaw City, the island and points north. The water surrounding the area is very peaceful and we enjoy walking along the shoreline. We especially love the history that is kept alive and all the daily activities that show how our forefathers built this great state. Winning this trip would be truly appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed. As our busy lives keep us from spending much time together, this would be the best opportunity for us to rekindle the flame that started over 37 years ago.

Fingers crossed!

My husband and I were married 25 years ago last summer. We visited Mackinaw Island during our honeymoon way back in 1987. We didn’t have a lot of money starting out so we didn’t end up staying on the island, but our trip was fabulous. I will always remember the bike ride around the island and experiencing the beauty of the shops, restaurants, flowers and homes on the island. Beautiful place! We will return!

I love living in Michigan! My dad is a “Yooper” and my mom is from the greater Lansing area. I now live in west Michigan with my husband and family. We travel extensively, but are always amazed by the beauty that surrounds us in our own home state. We truly are “Smitten with the Mitten”.

I remember stories of my family heading up north to pick cherries for one of the farmers in Traverse City, because I was little I was left in the care of my Aunt Carmen. I remember them telling me how beautiful it was, even though they worked hard every day. It wasn’t until my JR high school years that my brothers started to take me up north to vacation. That is when I fell in love with the great outdoors of Michigan. I am fortunate to have visited Mackinaw Island several times and have actually participated in my first Island run a few years back – ready to take on another one :) All I can say is “There is no place like home” Pure Michigan!

After 19 years of never visiting Mackinac Island, I celebrated my 20th birthday there and LOVED IT. I hope to make it a yearly trip. So magical. No place on earth like it and that is why I have such a strong love for Michigan.

367 Suzzanna C. Kopp February 15, 2013 at 10:30 am

I love Michigan. We go at least once a year. I have never been to Mackinaw Island or the Mackinaw Bridge. I told my fiance I would love to go there for our Honeymoon.

“Michigan in Love: Pin to Win”

Joelle and I were Highschool Sweethearts back in 1986 (since Grade 10).

The movie ‘Somewhere in Time’ with Jayne Seymour and Christopher Reeve was one of our favourites. Between 1986 through University, we must have watched the movie 40 times. We always said we’d visit the Grand Hotel. Life happened and we were pushed away from one another for several years.

About 4 years ago, we began finding our way back to one another and as life would have it, we finally chose to be together for the rest of our days.

Last year (2012), Joelle and I planned our trip to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, during their Titanic Weekend (My Father had taken us to the island a couple of times as children, but we had never been inside of the Hotel).

I carried the ring inside of my sock (under my pant leg), for a full day and a half until I found the right spot, and the right time to propose. We selected one of their Grand Picnics:
http://www.grandhotel.com/pdfs/picnic-lunch-menu-2012.pdf

Picnic #5
Picnic Basket For Two:
Our Beautiful Basket Included a 1/2 Bottle of champagne, Grand Hotel Water, chilled shrimp cobb salad with Herb Dressing, Grilled Portobello with
chevre, Tomatoes and slaw, sliced Beef Tenderloin with Red Onion confit,
asparagus and Pearl cous cous, camembert cheese, french Bread,
fruit salad and a Grand Hotel Chocolate Truffle Box (even the box was made of chocolate).

We stayed in Lady Bird Johnson’s Suite – an exceptional, remarkable, unbelievable experience.

We were able to check off two of our ‘Bucket-List’ items on one day; 1. making a promise to be together for the rest of our days, and 2. Making that promise in the Grand Hotel.

You really need to stay there….

Affectionately Yours,

Paul and Joelle

I would love to win a trip to Mackinac Island! I have never been there but have always wanted to go. I’d also love to visit some lighthouses; I tried to pin some to my board but just had some problems with the images not being large enough.

I forgot the link to my board!

381 Martha Ellzey February 15, 2013 at 12:03 pm

I would love to win a trip home to Michigan and even better to the UP
My perfect getaway would be with my husband to Mackinaw Island would consist of dancing, walking on the beach, eating at the Grand Hotel, and of course the lovely view of the bridge from the porch of the hotel. A carriage ride would be a lovely bonus as that was one of the things we did on our honeymoon.

382 Anne Bournay February 15, 2013 at 12:13 pm

I grew up in Michigan and come back to visit at least once a year. I love the beaches of Lake Michigan, the sand dunes, and the beautiful sunsets.

Love, love Michigan! Grew up here, have lived and visited most of the entire state. Not much I haven’t found that I don’t love. Had an incredible destination wedding in Traverse City at Timberlee Hills and then spent 6 days traveling the UP – covered 1,984 miles, saw 31 waterfalls and much more. Yep, Michigan means love to me!

I love camping in the UP, spending my summers on Lake Michigan, wine tasting in Traverse city, and enjoying the sporting events in Detroit. I would LOVE to win a vacation to Mackinac Island!

I love Mackinac Island! Spent my first overnight there in 2011 and would love to go again. What a beautiful, romantic place!

391 Amy Dunn February 15, 2013 at 2:59 pm

I’ve been to Mackinac Island twice in Jr High, but my husband and I have been talking about going there together. I’ve never been to the Grand Hotel or out of the town to see the rest of the island. We’ve been living in South Dakota for almost three years while my husband finishes up his Master’s in Paleontology, but we love going home whenever we can afford it. We even considered getting married out on the island last June or honeymooning there, but ended up going to Dow Gardens in Midland, MI and honeymooning in Hawaii. This would be an awesome first anniversary trip this June.
Went a little bit crazy pinning Michigan related things today…nearly fifty pins of places I’ve been and places I would love to visit with my husband and I’ll probably add more as I think of all the things I love about Michigan. :)

Im an Ohioan who’s one life dream is just to get across that line. I went to college at EMU, and lived on Mackinac Island for a summer, visited Traverse City and Suttons Bay so many times I think my car can drive itself there, but $ doesn’t allow it as much as I’d like. It was a pleasure to jump through the hoops of this contest. Nothing better than finding romantic pictures of Michigan!

I was born and raised in the Downriver area of Michigan. Spent many summers in the thumb area at my family’s cottage and best friend’s cottage too. I’ve been wanting to take my husband and son to see my beautiful home state for years. This year will be our 10th wedding anniversary, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than to do so on Mackinac Island. The processional and recessional music played during our wedding ceremony were songs from the “Somewhere in Time” soundtrack. :)
