Dine Michigan Foodie Tour

Dine Michigan logoLooking for a foodie tour? Let Dine Michigan take you on a journey to some of their favorite Pure Michigan restaurants and places to visit.

Starting in Michigan’s southeast region, you might try an amazing coney from one of the historic coney restaurants like American Coney Island before going to a Tigers game in Detroit. Afterwards, try Slows Bar-B-Q for some of the best BBQ anywhere.

Head north and west out of Detroit, and stop in Lansing to see our magnificent Michigan State Capitol and have a unique Michigan Brewing Co. Logocrafted brew from one of Michigan’s best microbreweries – The Michigan Brewing Company. M.B.C. is the birthplace of our own Kid Rock’s American Badass Lager. While enjoying a beer, why not also take in some of the best and freshest food around right off their menu.

Keep moving west to Grand Rapids, and you will find the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park and The Grand Rapids Art Museum. After your visit, you may be ready for a truly palate-pleasing over-the-top private dining experience at Cygnus 27.

Are you a fan of the beach? Then we suggest you head northwest where the beaches on Silver Lake and Lake Michigan are pristine and lighthouses guide dot the coastline.

Cygnus 27Next, let’s head up north a bit further. You soon will find towns like Pentwater, with great shops that offer a lot more than just tourist trinkets, and restaurants like Gull Landing where you can enjoy amazing food while listening to jazz bands and watch the sailboats drift by.

Keep heading north, cross the mighty Mackinac Bridge, and stop in Sault Sainte Marie. While in the Sault (Soo) be sure to visit the Soo Locks. After you’ve watched some of the freighters pass through, head west and grab a burger from West Pier. It is a small drive-in hidden just off the beaten path which offers one of the best burgers you will ever eat. We recommend you take it to-go and head to Sherman Park. Once there, grab a picnic table, enjoy your burger and watch the ships as they head toward the locks.

  3. There’s a great place in Sebewaing that is open only seasonally, but they have really good food and ice cream: The Dairy Barn. This is a local favorite, but with it’s location on M-25, it is a regular stop for visitors as well as locals. Their specialty is broasted chicken with broasted potatoes. Their french fries are perfection: crispy as potato chips on the outside and near mashed potatoes consistency on the inside. They have regular burgers, and some with rather unusual toppings (the Swiss Olive burger is loaded with green olives!). The ice cream comes in either soft-serve or hand-dipped. They offer baby-sized cones for the real little ones, and most servings are more than generous. There is dining al fresco with table service as well. It’s worth the half-hour drive east of Bay City, if only for the broasted chicken dinners!

  7. Skalawags in Mackinaw City – fish stand on the central strip with THE BEST whitefish! In the UP – Grand Marais (beautiful little harbor with sandy beaches) has a great diner – he’s the grill cook and she makes the best pies. Also, the Church ladies have a fundraiser on July 4th selling homemade pies. People line up hours before and purchase 4 and 5 pies. Everything from blueberry to chocolate peanut butter.

  8. What, no visit to southwest Michigan. Why in Paw Paw alone we feature four great mom & pop owned restaurants. Three with culinary trained owner operators where the menus are exzceptional. McGuires Bistro 120, LaCantina Ristorante Italiano and Cafe 237. The fourth is family owned with terrific vegan, celiac, vegetarian and dairy-free menu with properly trained staff and certified facilities. There are many more great restaurants in SW michigan.
