The Joy of Getting Lost

Jill Kobza shares her “Pure Michigan Moment,” an annual trip to Traverse City and Old Mission Point Lighthouse, this time with a few detours.

My husband’s family lives in Traverse City, and we love to make at least one trip to the Old Mission Point Lighthouse during our annual visit.

This past spring, we drove up M-37 to Old Mission Point Lighthouse. It’s one of my favorite trips to take in spring because I love to see the cherry blossoms in bloom.

On the way back, it's always fun to find the point where you can see both bays from the road. This time though, my husband wanted to take a different route, claiming he knew the area well.

Surprise! We got lost, so we decided to stop and stretch our legs and happened upon a nature trail. Even better. We had a nice walk along trail No. 3 and snapped quite a few pictures. Turns out, we were still lost; it took my GPS to get us back to the city. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to find the location of the trail since—it was a great find though!
