The holiday season is upon us in Pure Michigan! From holiday lights to holiday shopping, there are plenty of festive events to help make the season bright this December. Week of November 25, 2013

Festival of Trees
November 21, 2013 – December 1, 2013, Muskegon Museum of Art
The Muskegon Museum of Art presents 11 days of beautifully decorated holiday trees, wreaths and fun activities for the whole family. Admission: $7 per adult, $3 per child 17 and under.

Christmas and Holiday Traditions Around the World
November 26, 2013 – January 5, 2014, Grand Rapids
Experience the most magical time of year as Meijer Gardens transforms into a world of winter magic with the glow of 300,000 lights, more than 40 captivating international trees and displays, strolling carolers, horse-drawn carriage rides and more surprises than can fit under the tree.

Frankenmuth Holiday Celebration & Candlewalk
November 29, 2013 – December 1, 2013, Frankenmuth
The perfect way to start the Christmas season. Hot chocolate and cookies at 6pm. Ceremony starts at 6:30pm. Candlewalk from the River Place to the Chamber Platz for the lighting of the Tannenbaum. Made in Michigan & Holiday Market
November 29, 2013 – December 1, 2013, Hart
Kick-off the holidays with a Made in Michigan & Holiday Market, and lighted Christmas parade in Hart. The last entry of the parade is Santa Claus and he stops at Hart Commons and visits with children. So bring your camera for a picture prefect setting! There will be Michigan artists, crafters, creators, carolers, hay rides, area activities, and Christmas specials at the merchants and restaurants. Santa Claus visits kids at Hart Commons on Friday, November 29 at 7pm (after parade), Saturday, November 30, at noon, on Sunday, December 1 at 1pm, and Saturday, December 7 at noon. Santa Claus will have an indoor location in downtown Hart, if it is too cold. Saturday in Silver Lake is a Silver Lake Tree Lighting. The Nutcracker – Detroit Opera House
November 29, 2013 – December 1, 2013, Detroit
The Opera House continues its annual holiday tradition with the return of BalletMet Columbus’ production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. For four magical performances, this quintessential holiday event features a talented cast of more than 100 professional company dancers and local children, with larger-than-life characters, narration by Sir Roger Moore, and Tchaikovsky’s glorious score played by the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra.

Midnight Madness
December 6, 2013, Ann Arbor
It’s party time in the Main Street area! Stores open late, holiday sales, Santa Claus and Miss Washtenaw County roaming the sidewalks from 7-9pm!

Jack Frost Festival of Lights Parade
December 6, 2013, Ironwood
This annual event kicks off the holiday season with the Jack Frost Festival of Lights Parade, visits with Santa, Mrs. Claus and Jack Frost, plus a Gingerbread House display and Gogebic Range Band Christmas Concert. For more information contact (906) 932-1122.

Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village
December 6, 2013 – December 28, 2013, The Henry Ford
Step into a Christmas card from the past. Don’t miss the most popular holiday event in the area, complete with candlelit paths, live entertainment, costumed presenters, horse-drawn wagon and Model T rides, delightful holiday shops, Santa and live reindeer, ice skating, a spectacular fireworks display and more. Noel Night
December 7, 2013, Detroit
The annual Noel Night takes place at 75 Midtown venues, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Michigan Science Center, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Detroit Historical Museum, and the Detroit Public Library, amongst many others, each opening their doors to the public free of charge during this Cultural Center-wide holiday “open house.” Activities include horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday shopping, family craft activities and performances by over 120 area music, theatre, and dance groups. Jingle Bell Parade
December 7, 2013, Grand Haven
The popular Jingle Bell Parade is an annual event in downtown Grand Haven the first Saturday evening of December with “lighted” entries and featuring Santa & Mrs. Claus. The parade route through downtown ends at Central Park for the lighting of the Christmas tree and enjoyment of hot chocolate provided by the Salvation Army. Parade start time is 6pm. Great Lakes Comic Expo
December 14, 2014, Roseville
Comic book, toy, and collectible show at Roseville VFW Hall; 25671 Gratiot Ave. Roseville, MI 48066 (just south of I-696, between 10 and 11 Mile Roads). 11am to 4pm. Regular admission is $3, and children 10 and under are free.

Holiday Expo & Craft Show
December 14, 2013, Kalamazoo
Over 100 vendors, crafters and artists from across Michigan. Great holiday shopping for everyone on your list. Admission is free. Hours: 9am-4pm in Expo South.

 Winter Fantasy Art Show
December 14, 2013, Petoskey
Mixed-media art & fine craft show featuring local artist and unique holiday gifts handcrafted in northern Michigan. 10am to 4pm at 4-H Center at the fairgrounds. Free parking and admission. For a list of participating artists and vendors, visit the website link.

Candlelight Stroll
December 13, 2013 – December 28, 2013, Edsel & Eleanor Ford House
Glowing candles and twinkling lights are the highlights of this delightful evening stroll. Guests will be welcomed with sounds of holiday music filling the grand halls. While enjoying the trees, ornaments and other trimmings, hear stories of the Ford family holiday traditions at the Estate. Candlelight Strolls are offered December 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28. Karen Newman – Christmas Eve on Woodward Avenue

2014 New Year’s Eve Ball Drop
December 31, 2013 – January 1, 2014, Downtown Ludington
It’s a high-energy, FREE event packed with fun for everyone! Beginning at 9:30pm in the North James Street Plaza, come enjoy music, an entertainment tent, commemorative light-up glasses, fireworks and of course the highlight of the evening, Michigan’s largest environmentally friendly New Year’s Eve Ball, dropped at the strike of midnight. Bring your family and friends to experience this amazing night! Also a featured highlight of the New year Celebration is the Resolution Run 5K.
