With October right around the corner, below are some spooky and fall-inspired events that you and your family are sure to enjoy. There are hundreds of events and festivals happening in October all across Michigan.

Detroit Restaurant Week
September 28, 2012 – October 7 2012, Detroit
Detroit Restaurant Week is set to return for the fall of 2012. Metro Detroiters will once again be able to enjoy hearty three-course meals for an attractive price (excluding beverage, gratuity, and tax) at select fine dining locations in Detroit. Blue Water Film Festival
October 3-6, 2012, Port Huron
The Blue Water Film Festival will emphasize local filmmakers, screenwriters and actors, including Michigan and across the river into Sarnia. For more information on this event call us at (810) 985-9223.

Scarecrow Festival
October 5-7, 2012, Trenton
First weekend in October in downtown Trenton. Eleventh annual Scarecrow Festival – a family event with contests and events for all ages. Carnival, singing contest, Battle of the bands, dog costume contest, scarecrow building contest, artists and crafts area, and more. Fall Colors Bridge Race
October 6, 2012, Mackinaw City
Enjoy the breathtaking view from the top of the Mackinac Bridge and all its fall splendor! This race; in it’s fourth year, promises to be one you won’t forget – it’s a unique opportunity to run the Mighty Mac! Check-in and packet pick-up is at the Mackinaw City Recreation Center/Complex (race headquarters) in Mackinaw City and race begins at Bridgeview Park and end at race headquarters. Ghost Hunt at Jackson Prison
October 6-7, 2012, Jackson
The night begins with a historic tour of the prison followed by a ghost hunt. Paranormal investigative equipment will be available for guests use during the hunt. Food and refreshments served. Learn about the history of this Historic Michigan prison then see if the reports of ghostly phenomena as you investigate … solitary confinement, cellblocks, mess hall, and the underground tunnels. Fall Color Cruise
October 7, 2012, Kalamazoo
Join us on the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail for this family-friendly biking event that includes activities and fun for the whole family! The ride will include a 4-mile and 8-mile route to suit all skill levels. The surface is paved and helmets are required. Great prizes, great food and plenty of fun for the whole family! Markin Glen County Park; 5300 N Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, using the KRV Trail north to D. Ave and back. Noon-4pm. All ages, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. $5/person, $10/Family up to four. Includes park admission, ride registration, activities and food. Downtown Midland’s Mannequin Night
October 11, 2012, Midland
The 34th Annual Mannequin Modeling Night in Downtown Midland will be held from 6:30 – 8 pm. Northwood University students will pose as Mannequin Models in downtown store windows on Main Street. Join us for an evening of fun! For more information, call (989) 837-3330.

Great Lake Lighthouse Festival at Tawas Point Lighthouse
October 11 – 14, 2012, East Tawas
Lighthouse Festival is October 11 to October 14. With more than 120 lighthouses along Michigan’s shoreline, these beautiful beacons are easily one of the state’s most identifiable icons. As part of the celebration take a tour of the lighthouse for only $2 per person and learn about your opportunity to be a lightkeeper. Fall on the Island Festival 2012
October 12 – 14, 2012, Drummond Island
The festival will kick off on Friday, October 12th with carnival rides, live music, dessert bar, food and drinks. On Saturday, October 13th the carnival continues and the heated Big Tent will hold The Taste of Drummond’s food vendors and Lily’s Seafood & Micro Brewery from Royal Oak’s delicious, along with live musical and strolling entertainment all day long. There will be artisan vendors, kids’ games, juggling, magic and trolley rides. Join people of all ages and abilities for the 5K race and finish up the day with the pub crawl (free bus service) and vote for the best decorated bar and best dressed employee. Oktoberfest & Classic & Hot-Rod Car Show
October 13, 2012, Pentwater
Pumpkin and face painting, classic car and hot rod show, barrel race, sprint for the stein, egg toss, strudel bake-off, brats and kraut, chips, cookies, strudel, pop, beer, MSU on the big screen, chili cook-off, live auction, music and more. Haunted’s Forest
October 13 – 27, 2012, Thompsonville
Brave the haunted forest… if you dare. Warm yourself by the fire as the chill of distant screams fill the air. Tiptoe down the haunted trail, where frights lurk at every turn. Doctor Scream’s Spook Show
October 19 – 20, 2012, Frankenmuth
Vintage-style Halloween entertainment will have you on the edge of your seat as Doctor Scream and his gang of ghouls will re-create a live spooky and hilarious magic, comedy, and ghost show just like the travelling Spook Shows that graced neighborhood movie house stages 40+ years ago! Beautiful women will be sawn in half! Someone in the audience may get their head lopped off! Ghosts and Ghouls will invade the theater and fly over the audience! Haunted Hayrides
October 19-20, 2012, Suttons Bay
Take a ride into our spooky woods during our annual Haunted Hayrides on the farm, October 19 & 20 and 26 & 27. Stop by the Hearth & Vine Cafe for warm cider and other refreshments prior to your departure or after your return. All wagons will leave from the cafe beginning at 7pm and ending at 9:30pm. Rides are recommended for 12 and up and maybe subject to weather with last minute cancellations. Please call (231) 944-1251 to confirm. Ride tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door.

Zombie Festival
October 20, 2012, Kalamazoo
Join us at Zombie Festival to officially break the New Jersey World Record of the Most Zombies Gathered. Current record 4,093. Zip of Terror
October 20, 2012, Boyne Falls
Get ready for a spine-tingling experience unlike anything you’ve ever done before! The Zip of Terror is an after dark self guided tour of Boyne Mountain’s ten ziplines. Saturday, October 20 and Friday & Saturday October 26 & 27. You’ll be suited up with a zipline harness and helmet and sent on your way to navigate amongst the darkness illuminated only by a faint glow to mark the path as you travel through the chilling scene. Costumed guides hook you in to each of the ten lines of terror and send you flying through the night and dropping over 50 stories from start to finish. But be wary, as you are not alone in these woods and fright lurks around every corner. WARNING: The Zip of Terror is hair-raising experience, not recommended for the faint of heart. Reservations are required and offered every 30 minutes from 7pm to 11pm. This haunting experience is expected to be an hour to an hour and a half long. Call (231) 549-7256 for reservations. Detroit Free Press Talmer Bank Marathon 2012

Come run the 35th Detroit Free Press / Talmer Bank Marathon on October 21, 2012. With international appeal you’ll run through both downtown Detroit and downtown Windsor, the historic neighborhoods of Detroit and through the only underwater mile. Registration is now open. Museums Free 4ALL
October 21, 2012, Grand Rapids
The four major downtown museums will open their doors free of admission. the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum and the Grand Rapids Public Museum will join together to welcome the region’s residents for free general admission at each institution. Admission: FREE. Noon to 5pm. Spooktacular Weekend and Parade

On Friday, there is a Rocky Horror Picture Show, Teen Halloween Costume Party, Gallery Stroll and Renaissance & Baroque Spain Concert. On Saturday, Pentwater Halloween Passport, Halloween on the Green (Kids games), 5th Annual Spooktacular Parade, Trick or Treating with Pentwater’s Downtown, Pub Crawl, and Adult Halloween Costume Party. October 27, 2012, Mount Pleasant
An a cappella concert on the campus of Central Michigan University, featuring groups from across Michigan and the United States. The MountainTown Singers will host their fall chapter show in Central Michigan University’s Plachta Auditorium at Warriner Hall. The show starts at 7pm with doors opening at 6:30pm. Niles Haunted House
