It’s always fun to host travel writers in Michigan, especially those who have never traveled in Michigan. This week we (Travel Michigan) are hosting a group of travel writers from around the country to showcase travel opportunities in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

This afternoon, after most of the journalists arrived, the group toured the Tower of History in Sault Ste. Marie. The tower gives a panoramic view

of the area including the St. Mary’s River, the Soo Locks and the International Bridge. I recommend taking the elevator to the viewing area of this 21-story structure, however I am impressed that we had a few that choose to climb the 272 stairs.

After learning about the heritage of the area the group headed to the boat docks to board Le Voyager , a vessel of the Soo Locks Boat Tours, for dinner and a sunset cruise thru the famous Soo Locks. As dinner wrapped up and the boat traveled toward the locks, the captain gave a narrative of the trip thru the locks. The journalists were feverishly taking notes and the cameras were flashing. The spectacular sunset was an added bonus.

Tomorrow…a heritage tour of Sault Ste. Marie, St. Ignace and Cedarville.
