  1. Love those ads! Tim Allen’s voice is perfect. Maybe it comes from his heart being a Michigan guy. You can hear it and feel it. Pure genius in my mind!

  2. You hit it out of the park with these commercials. I live in beautiful pure Michigan and I agree with Liz…”when I hear one of these commercials, I just want to get in the car and travel..up north along the coastline…etc. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these commercials and Tim Allen’s voice is perfect for them. If I didn’t live in Michigan and I heard one of these on the air I would want to take off immediately…for MICHIGAN!!

  3. Our perfect spot is Black Lake near Onaway Four generations have cherished this place and the hope is that others will follow. We are honored to call Michigan our second home and the place where we all leave our hearts at the end of the summer. Your TV spots make us feel like we are there. Thank you!!!!

  4. I’m afraid I don’t understand the ad at all. It’s really nice, but if I didn’t already live in Michigan, I wouldn’t know any better why I’d want to come here. And it’s not just this ad. All of the ads are feel good ads, but they don’t seem designed to get people to come to Michigan on vacation.

I don’t know how we fund these ads, but I think we’re throwing our money away. I already know that I’d like to get away from work and hang out on the beach or go hiking. But how do we get non-Michiganders to want to hang out on our beaches or hike our trails? I’m guessing they all have their “perfect spot” and unfortunately it’s not in our fine state…but it could be.

I think we need to do better than dreamy, feel-good ads with a very nice voice-over. There are a lot of people that have never been to Michigan and would absolutely love it, if we could get them to choose Michigan over Florida or California or NYC or New England or the mountain west or their own home states.

I’m not a native Michigander, but I’ve started exploring the state and it’s great. When I post pictures of where I’ve been, many of my out-of-state friends are amazed that it’s Michigan. Shouldn’t a Pure Michigan campaign generate interest in what Michigan has to offer? The competition is stiff. Every state is vying for tourism dollars. Pure Michigan needs to be more than nice ads with no call to action or reason to act.

And since I’ve started, the website is completely confusing. For someone who’s not familiar with the state that just wants to know the must-see/must-do parts of Michigan, it’s impossible to find that. It seems we’re so determined to make sure every square inch of the state gets equal treatment that the entire state comes across as average. Nothing stands out. Word of mouth is the way I’ve planned my Michigan vacations, even though I’ve tried to use the website. I know if someone asked me where I’ve been and what I’ve done in Michigan that I would recommend, I could rattle off a list. But it would be a list of 5 – 10 things, not thousands. I think we’ve got to find a way to provide a top 10 list or something.

I don’t want this to come across as complaining, I just think that given the current economic situation in the state, we need to do better to promote the state. Okay, I’m done.

  5. I appreciate all the effort that is put in to make the beautiful and breath taking depictions of pure Michigan! When I here the music and Tim Allen’s voice come on the radio or television I am brought to tears. It provides a comfort and appreciation on such a high level that it is hard to put into words. I always look forward to the family vacations to friends cottages and the exploration of the heavenly landscape of Michigan. I am proud to be a Michigander and truly am pure Michigan!

  6. Oh my, this “Perfect Spot” ad is gonna be one of my favorites, I can already tell. It was already taking me away to one of my favorite spots in Michigan. Perfect!

  7. Even though I dont fish, this one makes me want to go to Michigan and do it. (If I didnt already live there ;) ) Another great one. The music fits perfectly!

  8. Michigan has so many “perfect spots” and the new ad instantly takes me to mine (on the shores of Lake Michigan at Sleeping Bear at sunset).

Thanks to the Travel Michigan gang at MEDC for reminding us of why we are proud to call ourselves Michiganders!

  9. I love these commercials. Whenever I would hear them on the radio at work I would sit back and close my eyes. Tim Allen’s voice would just take me to that place. It just makes you want to go traveling around Michigan. I know this state has some economical issues but it is still a beautiful place to be in any season.
    Keep up the good work!

  10. I LOVE the state of Michigan. When I hear one of these commercial’s I just want to get in the car and travel. Up North, along the coastline, wine tasting, bike riding the trails….you name it and I am ready to go! I am so happy to hear these ads and Tim Allen’s voice again this year. Michigan is such a beautiful state, let’s enjoy it, and be kind to her!

  11. I grew up in Michigan. Hope to return some day. The Michigan ads are the greatest ads ever!

  12. These commercials seriously make me tear up – thinking about growing up here and someday raising my kids here! Gosh, I’m a sap but I couldn’t love these commercials more! They really show Michigan how it deserves to be seen!

  13. GORGEOUS! What a triumph! Glad the funding came through. Our GREAT STATE OF MICHIGAN needs to be promoted for its true beauty like this! Tim Allen’s voice is soooo perfect for it and soooo appropriate that he is a Michigan native! CONGRATULATIONS PURE MICHIGAN!

  14. It’s beautiful, just like all the others. Tim Allen’s voice and The Cider House Rules music establish such a perfect mood and complement the beauty of Michigan so well, it almost brings tears to my eyes. The only fault I could find is that it’s far too short. Can’t you stretch it to an hour or so?

I am going to one of my perfect spots this weekend (Kensington Park in Milford). We’re going to cast a line and see what we can get! Congrats on another fabulous commercial.
