It’s Boat Night in Port Huron, the night before the big Pure Michigan Bayview Mackinac Race, and Pure Michigan’s own George Zimmermann is there.  George will be crewing for Eagle One starting tomorrow, and over the course of the race, he’ll be providing updates.  The only place to hear these is right here.

Check out his latest – all about the pre-race festivities:

Next week, the Pure Michigan Bayview Mackinac Race kicks off in Port Huron. The festivities begin with Family Day oBayview Sailingn Thursday, July 23, followed by Boat Night on July 24. Then, on Saturday, July 25, the boats set sail, racing along Lake Huron to Mackinac Island. The race is expected to last at least 2 days, with the Awards Ceremony and Wrap-Up Party scheduled on the Island for Tuesday, July 28.

If you’ve attended the races before, you know the excitement that infuses Port Huron, and the celebrations that take place over the course of the long weekend. If you’ve never been, this is the year to find out for yourself – Port Huron is inviting you to bring your family and friends to all the pre-race festivities.

If you can’t make it, but want to keep up with the progress of the race, you are in luck. For the first time, every single participating boat will be equipped with a GPS tracking device, which you can watch live only on michigan.org. Pure Michigan’s vice-president, George Zimmermann, will be crewing  Eagle One, and will be providing periodic updates that you’ll be able to see on our Twitter stream, our Facebook fan page, and right here on our blog.

We’re very excited to set sail on this amazing adventure, and hope that you will join us!
