This morning kicks off the Buick Open Pro-Am at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc. Pro golfers from the PGA are teaming up with amateur golfers for a day of fun on the links. Legendary golfer Tiger Woods is paired with legendary rocker Bob Seger, and the team teed off at 7am.
Round 1 of the official Buick Open Invitational will open tomorrow, Thursday, July 30, and the tournament will wrap up on Sunday, August 2. A full list of pairings and tee times for rounds 1 and 2 are available right here.
The Buick Open has a long history as Michigan’s only PGA tour stop. It was started in 1958, was the first corporate-sponsored event on the tour, and has evolved into one of the most prestigious events in golf. The tournament has been played at Warwick Hills for all but one of its 51 year history. The 17th hole at Warwick, a par 3, is famous – it’s known for having one of the liveliest galleries in pro golf. Fans gather here, and often create their own chants for their favorite golfers.
The Buick Open is also known for having one of the most generous purses. In 1958, it offered an unprecedented $52,000, and this year the golfers are competing for a record $5.1 million, which includes a $918,000 first prize.
Sadly, defending champion Kenny Perry, who was scheduled to play, dropped out of the tournament to be with his ailing mother, leaving the competition up for grabs. Who are you rooting for? Leave us a comment, and let us know!
