Sandy Moskwinski shares her “Pure Michigan Moment” of romance and travel; a Valentine’s pact with her sweetie.
This past Valentine’s Day, my life partner, Mark, and I followed through with plans for adventure in the UP, our first together and the best ever.
Our 1,000-mile journey to Big Bay Point Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast began in our hometown, Brooklyn. It was Mark’s idea to leave the day before check in. He is the true Michigander—he grew up in Farmington and is an alumni of Northern Michigan University—and knows all too well what the conditions can be like. I was game for all of it, the weather that is. I was raised in northern Indiana (South Bend, aka Michiana, the Lake-Effect City) and had never been north of Grand Rapids or Detroit. We spent the night in beautiful Mackinaw City. We awoke early and took a walk to take in the fascinating sites and the bridge before continuing to our destination.
In celebration of the holiday season, we’re bringing you a special treat from Detroit band and local music scene favorite, The Hard Lessons. Enjoy! Read more…
Special thanks to Michael Trudeau for taking us along for a road trip through the U.P. The fall is a great time to get out and enjoy the sights our state has to offer. Read more with Pure Michigan Connect!
With the Mackinac Bridge shrinking in my rear view mirror, I headed west on route 2 full of excitement and wonder for what I would encounter in the next four days. I was really astonished with the Keweenaw Peninsula for it seemed to come to life for me during my visit. Houghton and Hancock were bustling with vitality and they appeared to exist within their own little world without a care of what was happening elsewhere. Calumet welcomed me as if to say, “We were waiting for you.” The people of Calumet knew they lived in a very special place and took great pleasure in sharing their own unique perspective of what Calumet is to them.
