While known today as the twin to its more resort-town sister, St. Joseph, Benton Harbor has strong roots to an agricultural past and is fulfilling a promising future as an arts and shopping district. In the 1930's, the Benton Harbor Fruit Market was the largest cash-to-grower non-citrus fruit market in the world. This heritage is reflected in the Blossomtime Festival, the oldest multi-community festival in Michigan.

Emerging downtown is the Arts District, home to Galleria del Corazon, studio of renown sculptor Richard Hunt and the Water Street Glassworks, whose lead instructor, Jerry Catania, learned glassblowing under Dale Chihuly. A variety of shopping and dining options. But no description of this town would be complete without mentioning the living history at Mary’s City of David museum tours, hiking trails to natural springs and vintage baseball are part of the heritage of America's third oldest Christian communal society.
