Learn how nineteenth-century Americans coped with the overwhelming presence of death in a vastly changing society. The program includes a hands-on exhibit that explores death, mourning and spiritualism in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The museum has also partnered with Flint’s Glenwood Cemetery for a cemetery walk that will explain funerary art and fully immerse visitors in the past. This tour will be held on October 12 starting at 1pm. Candlelight tours are scheduled for October 5 at 7pm and November 1 at 6:30pm as well as Wednesday evenings throughout the month starting at 8pm. Self-guided tours will be available on October 19 from 10am to 1pm. The Whaley House is open for normal guided tours on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 10am to 1pm. Tours last 45-minutes and include the first and second floors of the house. Appointments can also be made during the week.
