Are you interested in learning about dog sledding? Members of the Michigan Husky Club are providing an introductory class that will go over several different outdoor activities owners can enjoy with their dogs including: Mushing, Skijoring, Bikejoring, and tandem snowshoeing with dogs.

The Recreation 101 portion of this class will be a classroom style introduction to the history of mushing, equipment use and safety, trail rules and etiquette, commands and how to use the equipment and train your dogs on the trail. They will also provide you with a list of locations to enjoy mushing with your dogs.

The Recreation 202 class will be more hands on. Instructors will work with each person to get the right equipment for their dog(s). If you have equipment please bring it for review, discussion and use. Instructors will focus on getting the participants and their dog(s) on the trail for a run. This portion will help participants recognize the way their dog works in a practical and safe setting with supervision by and instructor. Generally each run is 1 mile.

Fees:

  • The Recreation 202 class is limited to 17 Participants and will cost $15.00 along with a refundable $35.00 equipment deposit if you need to borrow equipment.
