Grow Your Own Garlic in the U.P. with Wayne Walma $16 Class Fee + $7 Materials Cost = $23 Total Fee Saturday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET
Students will learn the basics of growing their own garlic, common growing methods and the challenges of growing in a northern climate. Issues to be discussed are: the varieties of garlic, sources for further study, cost considerations and the potential to grow for market. Students will take home several garlic samples to plant. There are 30 spaces available and 8 students are needed to hold the class. Classes are held at the Porcupine Mountains Folk School at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park (near Union Bay Campground). The class registration deadline is Oct. 3.
