The Friends of Rockport and Besser Natural Area will host this first-day hike in this unique park nestled on the shores of Lake Huron. The trail is natural (not groomed), but a track is set that morning for cross-country skiers.Snowshoes will be available on a first-come, first serve basis. The trail is a mile loop and many participants take the loops a couple of times. Refreshments and warming station is available. Meet at the Besser Natural Area, off East Grand Lake Road in Presque Isle, approximately 19 miles north of Alpena off US-23, just past the Presque Isle Township Hall. Rockport Recreation Area is one of Michigan's newest state parks tucked into the upper northwest corner of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, It is known ofr offering a diversity of experiences, includng epic fossil hunting, hiking or mountain biking and the mysterious quarry and sinkholes.
