Food writers, chefs and lovers of tasty food have been flocking to the Traverse City area to sample the area’s fabled cuisine.

Here’s a New Year’s Resolution that’s easy to keep… When traveling around the state, seek out food establishments that feature Michigan wines and other local products on their menus.

You can tour individual wineries, take to one of the Michigan wine trails, or attend an upcoming tasting event. Sample many of these wines this season by visiting a tasting room or one of the special wine events in October and November.

Traverse City cuisine is the opposite of traditional: it’s an eclectic, relatively recent movement that borrows freely from other regional styles and relies heavily on imagination, boldness and spunk.

After winter’s long sleep, the beauty of Traverse City is at its fresh peak. The hills and valleys are misted in new greenery, the endless beaches are coming alive with warmth, and the air is filled with the scent of millions of flowering cherry trees.

Ancient glaciers carved the deep clear lakes and dramatic hills that give golf in Traverse City its breathtaking natural setting, but the finishing touches on its 18 golf courses were added by some of the nation’s most talented architects.
