You’ve never experienced anything like ArtPrize – a radically open international art competition with an unprecedented $200,000 top prize decided entirely by public vote.
It’s so unique, so inspiring and so much fun that Time magazine named it one of “Five Festive Events You Won’t Want to Miss in 2013.” ArtPrize is the only U.S. event on the list, which also includes celebrations in Indonesia, New Zealand, Serbia and Sweden.
So you don’t need a passport, but you will need some comfortable walking shoes: the only way to see ArtPrize is to wander through the streets, sidewalks, stores, shops, parks and pubs of downtown Grand Rapids. (Just hop a shuttle to get from one location to the next more quickly.) More than 1,500 works of art will be on display within a three square-mile radius – paintings, sculptures, music, performance art and so much more.
You’re invited to vote for your favorites via computer, smartphone or text message – public vote determine who wins the $200,000 first prize and which nine artists share an additional $160,000 in prize money. Another $200,000 is awarded by jury, making this truly the world’s largest art prize.
ArtPrize 2013 takes place from September 18 to October 6. Search area hotels for available dates – and take a look at our special ArtPrize Hotel Packages offering additional value.
