Mark your calendars for September 8th to take a whirlwind golf tour around Michigan. The Golf Channel spent a full week filming in the Great Lakes State to feature America’s Summer Golf Capital for their program “Destination Golf” starring Lauren Thompson.
This show features picturesque golf, celebrities, local restaurants and other summer attractions that make Michigan such a fun place for the entire family to visit.
Golf Channel sent a crew of five to produce this episode taking advantage of the 15-hour filming sessions which filled with epic sunrises and sunsets and some impressive surprises along the way.
While filming at the Art Hills designed Shepherd’s Hollow Golf Course near Detroit, the team scheduled a shoot with Motown legend and golf fanatic Duke Fakir of the Four Tops. Lather, Lauren and Duke had lunch at Slows Bar B Q, a downtown Detroit favorite.
The crew enjoyed another taste of culture in Chelsea, where they met actor and avid golfer Jeff Daniels at his Purple Rose Theatre. Daniels wrote a song just for Destination Golf and later played a few holes with Lauren at his favorite municipal course.
When the crew hit East Lansing, Lauren met up with Sara Brown, who appeared as a cast member of Big Break Sandals Resorts on the Golf Channel earlier this year. Sara, a former Michigan State University star, played the popular 17th hole at Bath’s (18 miles from Lansing) Eagle Eye, which is an exact replica of the Florida’s highly acclaimed TPC Sawgrass 17th island hole.
The September 8th program will feature dramatic shots of two of Michigan’s nationally ranked courses--Tullymore in Stanwood and Arcadia Bluffs, located in the lakeside community of Arcadia. And to show how Michigan resorts mix family and golf, the crew spent a, entire day filming at Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa in Thompsonville.
