To whet your appetite here’s a sampling of what you’ll find:
Northeast Michigan: Take a boat ride across Saginaw Bay to enjoy dinner on the porch of the Charity Island lighthouse keeper’s home, and munch locally grown apples and homebaked apple treats.
East Central/Thumb: Take a cooking class in a farmhouse and share platters of good food at a world-famous family-style chicken dinner.
Southeast: Roam the farmer’s market that has been selling fresh produce, meats and other goods since 1891, and grab a sandwich at a world famous deli that also makes its own cheese and baked goods.
Mid Michigan: Eat your way around the world in a Tuba Museum and buy a slice or an entire award-winning pie at a sweet, retro café.
Kalamazoo: Sip the brew that started Michigan’s craft beer craze, and treat yourself to freshly roasted nuts and mouthwatering brittle and caramel corn.
Southwest: Indulge in handmade truffles and eat rustic American fare like wood oven salmon and Brussels sprouts fried with bacon.
Grand Rapids: Buy organic cheese from a family owned century farm, and locally grown blueberries and cranberries sold fresh, dried, and covered in chocolate or mixed to make special mustards and sauces.
Traverse City: Have a scoop of ice cream on the dairy farm where the frozen treat is made and have a piece of cherry pie in the heart of the cherry capital.
Petoskey: Sample “spoon preserves” made from Michigan fruit and buy lavender in jelly, soap and sachet form.
Eastern Upper Peninsula: Toast Tahquamenon Falls with a Lumberjack Lager paired with a hot pasty meat pie and dip into smoked whitefish spread.
Western Upper Peninsula: Sup at a restaurant overlooking Lake Superior that serves whitefish from those deep blue waters, or dine while watching wild black bears roam the wooded property outside the resort dining room.
