The Michigan Brewers Guild (MBG) is a membership organization that promotes the beverage and its makers through events and information, including the annual Great Beer State Magazine. Pick up a copy for tips on beer styles, food and beer pairings, and beer events. July is Michigan Craft Beer Month, an ideal time for the MGB Summer Beer Festival in Ypsilanti’s Depot Town, July 23-24. The 13th annual event is the oldest and largest of the MBG’s four annual festivals, and it regularly sells out---rain or shine. Riverside Park is the setting for the 50 Michigan breweries serving over 300 beers. Admission ($30 Friday, $35 Saturday) includes 15 drink tokens, each good for a 3-oz. beer sample. Food booths and music round out this popular event for the over-21 crowd.
Looking ahead, tickets for the 2nd Annual U.P. Fall Beer Festival in Marquette on September 11 go on sale July 1st, and a month later ticket sales open for the 2nd Annual Detroit Fall Beer Festival at Eastern Market on October 23rd. (The fourth MBG event is the Winter Beer Festival February 26, 2011 in Grand Rapids.)
