Michigan Hosts National Fam Tour - Two Dozen National Journalists Traveling Northwest Michigan

Lansing, Michigan - Travel Michigan, in conjunction with local convention and visitors bureaus, is hosting two dozen travel journalists as part of a familiarization (fam) tour, designed to build interest in and publicity about Michigan travel.

Journalists from across the United States will be taking part in a Michigan travel fam tour this week, September 8-13, 2008. The tour is designed to acquaint the participants with the attractions, cultural institutions and recreational opportunities available in Michigan and to generate media coverage for the state in a wide variety of travel and lifestyle publications.

"This is an amazing opportunity to showcase Michigan to qualified travel writers from around the country," commented George Zimmermann, Vice President of Travel Michigan, a business unit of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. "We will send these writers home with great Michigan experiences to write about."

Throughout the week, journalists will sample a variety of Michigan's tourism products - Meet with artists at galleries in Leland, Glen Arbor and Omena, golf at Grand Traverse Resort, Shanty Creek and Boyne, enjoy food and wine tastings throughout Northwest Michigan including the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas wineries and Learn Great Foods, as well as outdoor recreational activities including cycling the VASA, canoeing the Jordan River and hiking the North Country Trail.

Journalists on this fam tour include staff and freelance writers representing AAA Home & Away, Adventure Cyclist, African American Golfers Digest, Allure, American Style, Art Showcase Magazine, Borsen-Zeitung, Canoe & Kayak, Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Tribune, The Cincinnati Enquirer, Cleveland Magazine, Coastal Woman, Corporate and Incentive Travel, Country Living Magazine, Der Speigel, Executive Traveler, Fodor's Travel Guides, Golf Chicago Magazine, Home & Away, Long Weekends, Miami Herald, Midwest Living, MotorHome Magazine, National Public Radio, Ohio Magazine, Ohio Sports and Fitness, Pilot Challenge Magazine, Reunions Magazine, Shape Magazine, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Toronto Sun, Touring & Tasting Magazine, US Airways, Weddings With Style, Where to Play Golf Radio, Wine Enthusiast Magazine, and Wisconsin State Journal.
