On February 28 the Detroit Institute of Arts opens its Gallery of Islamic Art, a permanent exhibit of works of the 7th to early 20th centuries from the Middle East, Central Asia, India, and the Mediterranean region.
This year the Grand Rapids Art Museum celebrates its centennial, and Mackinac Island welcomes the new Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum. The former Indian Dormitory has been renovated to accommodate a collection of fine and decorative arts inspired by the island. The museum, opening in July, is in the Mackinac State Historic Parks system.
There’s still time to catch the stunning exhibition, River of Gold: Pre-Columbian Treasures from Sitio Conte, through March 28 at The Dennos Museum in Traverse City.
