Dozens of Michigan’s state parks and recreation areas host fall events, including harvest festivals and spook-tacular fun; check in advance to see which are for campers only and those that also welcome day visitors. September 30-October 2 is a big weekend for Halloween-themed and other events at 20 sites including Brimley State Park in the UP, Hoeft State Park in Rogers City, Sleepy Hollow State Park, and Pontiac Lake Recreation Area. Paddle a canoe, hike a mile-long trail and escape the terror on a hayride at Panic at Proud Lake, a multi-sensory outdoor adventure that continues on weekends through the month.
Enjoy the season at more than a dozen Harvest and Halloween events October 7-9, plus a Fall Color Fun Hike at Bald Mountain Recreation Area in Lake Orion October 8 and One World, One Sky Worldwide Kite Flying Event at Charles Mears State Park October 9 in Pentwater. Tawas Point State Park hosts a haunted Lighthouse Weekend October 14-16, and there are several Harvest Festivals that weekend including those at Traverse City and Port Crescent State Parks.
