Michigan International Speedway (MIS) is all about high-speed action and hosting the popular Pure Michigan 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in August--now in its 63rd season. Led by Jeff Gordon and Kurt and Kyle Busch, the Sprint Cup Series reaches speeds approaching 190 mph on the 2-mile oval track. Thrill and excitement of this spectacular race have become not only the top Pure Michigan spectator sport—it is the most popular such sport in the country. MIS is expected to host over half a million fans during its two race weekends this summer. Located on more than 1400 acres in Brooklyn, MIS is on US-12, one-mile west from the intersection of M-50, less than 70 miles southwest of Detroit. The area offers many other choices for a summer getaway including several public golf courses, antiquing up and down US- 12 and the immediate Brooklyn area, 50 lakes for fishing and water sports, the 755-acre Hidden Lake Gardens and Arboretum in nearby Tipton, Cherry Creek Cellars and Pentamere Winery, the Cambridge Junction Historic State Park / Walker Tavern Historic Complex, plus family-friendly dining.

MIS is a destination within itself, with nine campgrounds offering nearly 9,000 sites. In fact, it is the largest registered campground in the state. Two campgrounds have convenient stores. So, pack your bags, grab the camping gear and head to southeastern Michigan to enjoy a Pure Michigan outdoor experience-and check out the signature Pure Michigan 400 race while there. There’s plenty of room for tailgating in the nine free parking lots.
Seating about 132,000, MIS is used year-round, for various local civic, sporting and health-awareness events to name a few. From new grandstands, to a 26-acre fan plaza--the largest renovation project in the history of the facility--there are always enhancements to rev-up the experience.
