Conditions willing, Michigan’s snowmobile trails are officially open and ready to ride from December 1 through March 31. And with 6,200 miles of designated trails across state and national forest and privately owned lands, sledders have lots of opportunities to enjoy the sport in both the Upper and Lower Peninsulas. Michigan has one of the largest networks of interconnected trails in the nation. Snowmobilers on colorful machines zip along groomed wooded trails, break fresh powder on sweeps across wide open fields and frozen lakes, gather at favorite eating spots along well-traveled routes, and congregate at festivals, races, and other events dedicated to this popular form of Pure Michigan recreation.
