Get the whole family outdoors for some great Pure Michigan winter fun. P.J. Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon County is sponsoring Winter Snowshoe Hikes each Saturday from January 14 to February 25 at the Gillette Visitor Center.
Reservations are required to participate in the hikes and space is limited. Snowshoes can be reserved at the time hike reservations are made for $5 per pair. For details call 231-798-3573.
The park welcomes skiers all season long to its three-mile marked cross country trails. Just strap on the ski and hit the trail--no reservation required.
Cheboygan State Park has set the stage for an evening of lantern-lit cross-country skiing and hiking on January 28. The event will begin at the park trailhead off Seffern Road where skiers will find approximately 1.8 miles of groomed and track-set trails lit every 50 feet by lanterns.
Participants can warm up to a bonfire at the trailhead before starting out and enjoy a second bonfire, snacks and hot chocolate at the halfway point on the trail. Snowshoers and hikers are welcome to participate but are requested to keep to the opposite side of the groomed ski tracks.
The event will take place weather permitting and interested participants should contact the park ahead of time to confirm there is adequate snowfall at the park. For details, call is 231-627-2811.
