Many of Michigan’s 92 wineries, vineyards and tasting rooms have aligned themselves with “Wine Trails” in the Lower Peninsula. The Michigan Wines offers its free, annual Wine Country Magazine as well as regional maps online for following self-guided tours to wineries across the Lower Peninsula and parts of the Upper Peninsula. Or, follow the routes of the four Wine Trails: the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail, Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula, Southeast Michigan Pioneer Wine Trail and Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail.
As the lengthy list of Michigan breweries on michigan.org attests, the state’s craft beer scene is hopping, not only with the number of brew pubs and microbreweries (the state ranks fifth nationally in number of craft breweries) but because so many brews are earning national recognition. More than 80 breweries belong to the Michigan Brewers Guild and that doesn’t represent all of the beer makers in the state. Check them out in The Great Beer State magazine; it’s available online and at select locations. Or pick up a free copy of the bi-monthly Michigan Beer Guide for a list of breweries and beer events across both peninsulas.
