Sports and entertainment options during January include Detroit Red Wings Hockey at Joe Louis Arena on January 15, 22 and 26. The award-winning Beatles concert, RAIN - A Tribute to the Beatles, will return to the Fox Theatre for two performances on January 21 and 22. World Wrestling Entertainment presents Monday Night Raw, live from Joe Louis Arena on January 24. The distinguished Joffrey Ballet will be presented at the Detroit Opera House on January 29 and 30. Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts January shows include: Pekka (children’s show), Russian National Ballet Theatre on the main stage and Latin Jazz All Stars, Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Ben’s Friends Big Band in the Jazz Café. The month ends with roller skating action with the Detroit Derby Girls featuring Devil’s Night Dames vs. Grand Prix Madonnas plus Detroit Pistoffs vs. Pistolwhippers at Cobo Arena on January 29.
Visit the Detroit Cultural Center for special exhibits including Fakes, Forgeries and Mysteries at the Detroit Institute of Arts, and “Doorway to Freedom – Detroit and the Underground Railroad and other exhibits at the Detroit Historical Museum. The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History also offers several exhibits and activities including “The Test – Tuskegee Airman Project”. The Detroit Science Center presents the Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre for mega films, the Dassault Systèmes Planetarium and Toyota Engineering Theatre plus featured exhibits and plenty of hands-on activities for kids and adults.
