When the sun is shining and the weather is warming, make sure to head over to Riverside Park in Ypsilanti. Nestled along the banks of the Huron River, Riverside Park has become a community favorite and plays host to some of the best events in Washtenaw County.
Beginning in May, thousands of people come to Ypsilanti every year to enjoy events ranging from car shows to concerts and festivals. It’s time to mark up your spring/summer calendar.
Get Your Motor Running. The event season kicks off with engines revving at the Ypsilanti Area Show & Shine Car Show on May 5, featuring the Ypsi Area Street Rods, vendors, a DJ, prizes and more. Not to be outdone by any other car show, the Michigan Vintage Volkswagen Car Show returns for its 26th annual show. Check out all variations of Volkswagen’s in the park on May 19.
Go Camaro Go. The longest-running and best all-Camaro event in the USA, the Camaro Superfest 2013 brings together hundreds of Camaro owners showing off their prized rides in beautiful Riverside Park.
Swing Your Hips. The world-renowned Michigan ElvisFest will be rockin’ in the park on July 12 and 13. Join thousands as they pay homage to the King of Rock and Roll with live performances, food, drinks and more. If craft beers are more of your style, then you don’t want to miss the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival on July 26 and 27. Sample and enjoy over 450 different beers from 60-plus different breweries around the state.
Throw it Back. Come celebrate Ypsilanti at the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival from August 16-18. Here you’ll find all kinds of live entertainment, food, crafts, and of course, fun! Don’t forget about the historic home tour throughout Ypsilanti.
Keep on Truckin’. Wrapping up the summer events is the Fire Truck Muster where the Michigan Firehouse Museum brings out a gathering of fire trucks, owners and enthusiasts. As the event season starts to wind down in the fall and the colors begin to change, Ypsilanti festivals culminate with a couple of awesome events. The Orphan Car Show is one of Ypsilanti’s largest car shows, featuring hundreds of cars and trucks from throughout the region whose parent companies are defunct. Don’t miss out on all of these classics on September 22. Of course, we can’t forget the truck lovers. The Antique Truck Show on October 6 will feature trucks of all shapes and sizes strutting their stuff in the park.
