Competitive Bass Fishing Television Program to Visit State from July 25-30

MICHIGAN (JULY 27, 2016) - Major League Fishing will continue its sixth season of filming as 24 top anglers compete in the Bass Pro Shop Challenge Select presented by Ferguson in Michigan from July 25-30, 2016.

The television series features 24 of the top anglers in the country and includes Bassmaster Classic champions, Angler of the Year winners and title-holders from both the Bassmaster Elite Series and the FLW Tour. Anglers will compete across the lake in six days of competition, and daily winners will be awarded a place in the Major League Fishing Challenge Cup to be filmed later this year.

The GEICO Selects are a companion to the Major League Fishing Cup series. The events filmed in Michigan will begin airing in April 2017 on Outdoor Channel, America’s leader in outdoor television. This is Major League Fishing’s second time in its five-year history to fish in Michigan—during the 2014 MLF Summit Cup in Alpena, MLF Pro Angler and Michigan native Kevin VanDam won the championship round with a one-day MLF record catch of 39 bass that weighed 82 pounds, 7 ounces.

“We are excited to welcome Major League Fishing, and many of the top anglers in the nation, to Michigan and showcase our state’s world class freshwater fisheries,” said Dave Lorenz, Vice President of Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “Through this partnership, we have the opportunity to highlight excellent fishing as well as friendly communities and unique destinations anglers visiting Michigan will experience to round out their stay. This winning combination truly makes Pure Michigan a must for any angler’s bucket list.”

Major League Fishing Select anglers competing in Michigan are: Casey Ashley, Scott Ashmore, Zack Birge, Gary Clouse, Jason Christie, Ott DeFoe, Kurt Dove, Todd Faircloth, Randy Howell, Chris Lane, Russ Lane, Dave LeFebre, Pete Ponds, Brandon Palaniuk, Keith Poche, Marty Robinson, Mark Rose, Fred Roumbanis, Kevin Short, Fletcher Shryock, Wesley Strader, Scott Suggs, James Watson and Jacob Wheeler.

“We’re really excited for our Select anglers to fish in some of the same outstanding fisheries that made our 2014 Cup event in Michigan such a success,” Randy White, executive producer, said. “These Michigan lakes produced our current record performance and this really is a great area for the MLF format of fishing.”

About Jack Link’s Major League Fishing
Developed through a joint effort between Outdoor Channel and two dozen premier bass fishing anglers in 2011, Major League Fishing brings the high-intensity sport of competitive bass fishing into America’s living rooms in the form of riveting two-hour TV episodes. Twenty-four world-class anglers are filmed over the course of a six-day event. The show captures their efforts as they utilize a demanding format that allows them to weigh all the “scorable bass” they catch. Unlike other competitive fishing events, live leaderboards in the boats allow anglers to know their standings at all times.
