LANSING, Mich. – This fall, as folks across Michigan and beyond seek out the Scenic Route, one destination on the horizon is Tawas Bay. Located along Heritage Route 23, this Lake Huron coastal community offers hometown hospitality, maritime heritage, quaint shops and natural beauty all around. It is also the location for the next Pure Michigan live virtual tour.

Pure Michigan and Under the Radar will provide fans with a virtual tourist experience of Tawas Bay and various points along Heritage Route 23 Friday, September 16 at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Pure Michigan has once again partnered with Georama, a real-time vicarious travel platform, to allow the public to virtually tour Tawas Bay with guide Tom Daldin, host of the PBS show Under the Radar Michigan.  Participants can join the tour by logging on at michigan.org/live. Previous tours have included Mackinac Island and the Detroit Zoo.

Featured locations during the Tawas Bay live tour will include various stops in downtown East Tawas and East Tawas State Dock.  Tawas Bay is also part of Heritage Route 23, which runs from Standish to Mackinaw City along the Lake Huron shoreline. Currently Pure Michigan and BIGGBY COFFEE® are offering the chance to win the perfect autumn escape along the Heritage Route 23, including an overnight stay at East Tawas Junction Bed & Breakfast. Visit puremichiganscenicroute.com for more details and to register to win.

“Tom Daldin is the perfect guide to provide an informative and entertaining look into Tawas Bay thanks to Georama’s virtual tour technology,” said Dave Lorenz, Vice President of Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “Get inspired to plan your own heritage route road trip or getaway to the Sunrise Coast as you experience the charm and beauty of Tawas Bay in real time.”

Participants can login to michigan.org/live to watch and listen to the live video feed. The platform allows two-way interactivity, where viewers from around the world can ask questions or offer suggestions to Daldin on where to go and what to do using Twitter or Facebook. Daldin will respond to questions and recommendations received via Twitter or Facebook on camera.

“I’m really excited to help Pure Michigan promote the Sunrise Side,” explained Daldin. “And the Scenic Route Sweepstakes is a wonderful chance for a family to explore this beautiful part of our Great Lakes State.”
