You'll love this cozy, old-style European cafe full of old-world charm and quiet intimacy. U-M music students frequently play classical music on the worn upright piano and on Friday nights there's a guitarist. Featuring a combination of Viennese patisserie, Central European and Polish entrees, all menu items are made fresh from scratch. It's hard to go wrong here whether you order lightly (imaginative homemade soups), eat heartily (Hungarian goulash, shredded Chicken Paprikash in sour cream, meat and potato-stuffed dumplings) or somewhere in between (smoked salmon on bread rounds accompanied by hard-boiled egg crowned w/ deliciously salty, bright orange caviar). And don't even think about skipping dessert. The pastry case is filled to groaning with exquisite tortes, pastries, cookies and extravagant desserts, accompanied by rich Viennese coffees. Hours are Tuesday - Thursday from 11:30am - 10pm; Friday and Saturday from 11:30am - 11pm and Sunday from 10am - 3pm. Closed on Monday.
