The far away is nearby at Igor Zaytsev Fine Art, the gallery of the artist and Ukrainian ex-pat, Igor Zaystev in Downtown Petoskey. Working in the plein air tradition he captures the vistas of Lake Michigan and the surrounding countryside. He works in an impressionistic style of dappled brush strokes in oil paints to capture portraits as well as surreal and figurative work.
Born to a family of artists he has carried on the family tradition, and also works in a surreal style reminiscent of Salvador Dali. "My painting can be just thoughts, which create a world of their own, and a journey to the unknown."
"I create illusions which appear as metaphors, a concentration of information about subject or feeling, sometimes not a literal depiction of the lake or the woods, but a space for fantasy and mysterious reality."
Igor is a graduate of the National Academy of Art, Kiev. Igor has shown his work across the world from solo shows in New York City to Geneva, and is represented by Kidd Gallery in Birmingham, Michigan. Open June thru October. Hours: Tue - Fri 11am - 6 pm; Sat 11am -2pm; June - November.
