Northern Michigan Dragway opened Memorial Day Weekend 1970 as Manistee County Dragway. Owner Tom Ledford and his brother, the Late Jim Ledford, built the Dragstrip on their family farm 3 miles North of Kaleva. In 2009 Tom and Sharon Ledford celebrated the 40th Race Season at Northern Michigan Dragway. Throughout the Summer Northern Michigan Dragway host races most weekends. Northern Michigan Dragway features E.T.Bracket Racing and two Heads-Up Programs. The first one is After Hours Street Drags, which is a Race Program where people can drive their vehicle off the street and race it heads-up and see what it can do in a safe environment, it is billed as a Run Whatcha Brung style race. The other heads-up program at Northern Michigan Dragway is Night Moves which is similar to After Hours Street Drags except the cars do not have to be street legal and also the Pro Classes are running heads-up. Three Special Events held each year at Northern Michigan Dragway, Bow-Tie Challenge, New in 2011, is held the weekend before Memorial Day in May. At the end of July is our Premiere event, Mopars against the World. Finally in the end of September is our Mulligan Race, which has become a favorite by racers and fans.
