HISTORICAL MARKER DEDICATION
A historicat marker will be dedicated on Thursday, July 31* at 11:00 a.m. The dedication will take place at the Lakeside Cemetery, nicknamed "The Magic Graveyard," in Colon, Michigan.
This journey began in 2023 when Ruth Cerny began researching the cemetery's history. Ruth contacted Michigan Historical Society, Colon Historical Society, and St. Joseph County Historical Society and found the cemetery was established in 1832 by early European settlers.
In the late 1920's, Harry Blackstone, America's best known magician, invited Percy Abbott to the area. As more magicians came to the area, Colon became known as "The Magic Capitol of the World."
Many magicians chose to be buried at Lakeside Cemetery. By 2024 there were more than forty-seven magicians interred there.
Self-guided tours of magician's graves are available Memorial Day through October 1*. A guided tour will be held on the same day as the dedication.
