Chesaning (Chi-asin), named by the Chippewa Indians meaning"home of the Big Rock", was incorporated in 1869. In her early years, Chesaning was basically a lumbering community, but transgressed over the years to the agriculture and tourism base as we know it today.
Chesaning is often referred to as "Showboat City" for its Showboat-on-the-river that is used as a stage for a week-long variety show during the annual Chesaning Showboat Music Festival. Chesaning is also known for its preservation of "vintage" Victorian architecture. The downtown area has third generation retail stores. We invite you to walk our beautiful boulevard, look for antiques in Chesaning's antique mall, or golf at the player-friendly Twin Brooks Golf Course. You can stay overnight at a bed and breakfast or in a motel or camp along the Shiawassee River in a wooded, modern campground located in Showboat Park. A year-round roster of festivals both in the village and at the nearby Saginaw County Fairground means their is always something to do. Most of all relax and enjoy the charm of Chesaning. You are always welcome!
