The City of St. Louis, the "Middle of the Mitten," is a picturesque small town that is a convenient stopping place for travelers who are looking for a place to eat, a quick dip in a swimming pool, a round of golf, a bit of shopping or to explore some interesting history. The "Geographic Center of the Lower Peninsula," St. Louis is located in Gratiot County right on M-46 and only two miles east of US-127 and is an ideal place to stop whatever direction you're traveling.
Beautiful Clapp Park, which sits right on M-46 near the traditional downtown is a peaceful spot to have a picnic or just allow the kids to let off some steam. The town features a good selection of eating places whether you like coffee and a bagel, Mexican, traditional sit down food or a slice of pizza. St. Louis' Central Business District on North Mill Street features an old time "Five and Dime" store in St. Louis Variety as well as a wonderful Fenton Glass dealer disguised as Peters Hardware. Other restored historic buildings are home to antique and unique gift shops such as Kubin's, Victoria's, Weathervane Antiques and The Ugly Mug.
