The city of Wayland is located off of U.S. 131 in the northeastern corner of Allegan County.  Wayland was established in 1899 and was largely a farming and lumber community. The City of Wayland has three parks, public lakes, campgrounds and trout streams located nearby.  Three golf courses also are located within a 10-minute drive of Wayland.  Lake Michigan, with its many sandy beaches and campgrounds is about 25 miles west of the city.
