This two-day class is an introductory guide to safe, ethical and effective trapping in Michigan. Join us at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center, where DNR Outdoor Skills Academy pro-staff will walk participants through the ins and outs of starting a trapline. The class will cover both land and water trapping, with topics including trap selection, how to set dirt-hole and water sets, scouting, and the use of lures and attractants. Each day begins in the classroom and then moves to the ADA-accessible hiking trails around the center for field demonstrations, where students will gain firsthand experience setting traps and reading animal sign to increase their success in the upcoming season.
While not required for the class, students may complete the free Michigan trapper education online course to receive an official trapping education certificate.
Cost is $40, which includes lunch, a tumbler and more.
